Interesting, this video has been consistently pushed to me by the YouTube recommendation algorithm for the past 3 weeks. It looks like the recommender pressure is so strong it's influencing HN headlines.

I'm puzzled by this, looking at the resistance versus temperature graph they're not demonstrating zero resistance at 110K, they're demonstrating that at 110K the resistance becomes so low that it reaches the noise floor of th

Not over a single dipole magnet. The "shape" of the field wouldn't make it stable, you'd need to add other magnets or a piece of string to stabilise. As I understand stable levitation over a dipole magnet is indicative o

No, you can't float a regular magnet above another magnet or any number of magnets, that is not stable (it can be proven mathematically). You can float a diamagnetic material but you need at least 2 magnets, it wouldn't be stable

It's not the same thing, Hola was found to use clients as exit nodes, which is definitely an abuse of client trust, resources, and potentially exposing them to major legal trouble or otherwise, but I don't think that can be consid

Strange article. It is about an unrepairable pair of shoes that need to be recycled but its title is "Buy well, buy once". Not really the case, then ? Then he mentions that he has only 192 "worldly possessions". I'd

That would pose issues when iterating over a range that crosses the X/Y axis, you'd need special case for this. Or you might say that -0 +1 = 0 but I think that would probably break some fundamental properties of the ring of integ

I think there is a symmetry problem, there is a A and a nA but not a 0 and a n0 ... It might feel weird but it might also avoid issues to simply forget about nA and go nC, nB, A, B, C and so on, to have the same mapping between numbers and

It probably would, but if you're implying this would absorb a lot of CO2, I don't think so, plants die and when they do they decompose and release the CO2 back into the atmosphere. The conditions are not really met for a new carbo

MHD is nothing new though, so if it has not yet replaced propellers I'm guessing it is because of practical issues like corrosion, electrolysis and so on alluded to in the article that DARPA seems to have found solutions for but which

Pretty entertaining concept, but I guess the site was developed with mobile in mind ? It's frustrating to use on a laptop, it looks like about 80% of the page is unused black space, with a big bar at the bottom, and the actual emoji a

I think the French k7 is because "k-sept" sounds exactly like "cassette". The fact that the number of letters match is just a coincidence.

We might need to build a "web if humans" on the model of the web of trust used by PGP, a network of sites of quality vetted by other people. A bit like the web rings of yore but with more edges. This would also eliminate SEO spam

I remember that the framerate was pretty important in Quake. Because player positions were interpolated linearly, you could miss the top of the parabola when jumping if your framerate was too low. I don't remember any numbers but getti

Firefox developer edition, Linux - I can't give any input. Moving the mouse pointer moves the camera POV slightly, so that it can end up below the ground, but apart from that no keys or clicks are registered.

Interestingly the source code base does not seem to have any tests. I guess it speaks of the strength of Scala's type system or the rigorousness of the developer. I tried Scala a long time ago but I didn't like it, it felt every s
