My favorite way is how French website "Le Monde Diplomatique" does it : the footnotes appear at the bottom of the screen in context as you scroll so that only those referred in the currently visible text are displayed. It avoids awkwardly clicking on tiny superscript numbers and annoyingly scrolling back and forth between text and footnotes. For an example : https://www.monde-diplomatique.fr/2021/01/PIGEAUD/62633 https://www.monde-diplomatique.fr/2021/01/PIGEAUD/62633

- malshe 4y agoThis is fantastic! Dirk Eddelbuettel and Jonathan Gilligan have an R package (https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/tint/vignettes/tintHtmlIntro.html https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/tint/vignettes/tintH...) that shows footnotes and many other objects in the sidetones. I like that format as well. But it is static and doesn't't change dynamically like this one in the French website you have linked to.
