Apple doesn’t give a damn about companies with business models that can’t afford a 70/30 split. Apple’s running a competitive business; competition is cold and hard. Why not allow developers and publishers to set their own prices for in-

Yes they do, but how much depends on your rating and amount of competition. A few months ago I killed a $1.99 app that hadn't been updated in over a year, yet 3-4 people were still buying it a day. I just felt bad charging for something I h

Really, all this talk of introducing "higher quality" digital music is the record companies looking for the next way to keep you paying for content you already own. I can even understand their fear. Until now every format has had a mass mar

What's going to get really interesting is seeing where Apple draw the line with "subscription apps". The Rhapsody and Magazine apps of this world seem fairly clear cut. Kindle is somewhat less so (since books aren't a subscription service -

Honestly, doing this backend work is pretty trivial. Aside from Windows Phone that is, where everything must be in managed code (doh). But iPhone / Android is trivial, like literally a couple of days for a moderately complex app with storag

When you think about it, using Windows phone is actually Plan B - and while that horse might be in last place at least it's a horse. Plan A was to internally develop their own hardware, running their own OS, offering customers items from t

I wonder what the figures for iOS would be if you included non-phone devices such as the iPod touch and iPad. Come to think of it, maybe these should start to be classed as smartphones. After all, if a smartphone is a phone that can act as

The article is misleading (although the HN headline is correct!) - the $20k is for compromising Chrome on OSX / Win7. The CR-48 is just an extra price for anyone who does so and is not a candidate target.
