Interestingly, the redundancy isn’t always incorrect. Maybe it is for mountains? But many rivers in Japan have official English names that include “kawa.” I just looked on Wikipedia and see there are two Arakawas (at least); one is the Arak

Yeah, I use sessions, which basically means there’s no catalog. I just keep the files where I like and open those folders with Capture One when editing. I also like the EIP package format. You can package an image into a zip of the original

I switched to Capture One and it’s so much better. The main factor is speed. Also allowing layers for all adjustments.

I’m really confused by this whole thread and just want to clarify. “Touch typing” just means typing “correctly” right? As in with your fingers on the home row and reaching to type fluently? Honest question, how is it that there’s debate abo

America taxes citizens regardless of residence, but there’s a treaty so you can credit all taxes paid to Japan and you only end up paying the higher of the two.

There are over 10,000 naturalizations per year with a 99% approval rate. Your figure sounds like one of those weird Japanese legends. And I haven’t read Arudou’s naturalization story, but he’s well known for over-dramatizing everything and

I’m not at my computer right now to confirm, but I’m pretty sure nothing is stopping you from doing that on the keyboard alone. Do you have keyboard navigation set to “All controls?” That’s the key and the first thing I do on any new Mac.

I installed Catalina with OpenCore earlier this year and it was the smoothest Hackintosh experience yet, especially with their accurate, clear, and up-to-date documentation.

For your second point, I think you meant FeliCa. Osaifu-keitai is the name of the integration with phones, but FeliCa is the name of the far superior NFC standard that never took off outside Japan.

I think the same thing happens with most honest wine studies. The truth is there is a huge range of quality in wine and most people agree when blind, but the quality is completely uncorrelated to price.

At least it’s possible to have a clean document with Office. Google Docs only has five(ish) styles, all paragraph level heading styles. Most users might fall back to manually tweaking with Office, but a clean doc based on styles isn’t even

Oh, I just meant a tangent in the discussion. It’s definitely critical to Nintendo’s success! Also, very interesting to hear your experience with the other companies.

A tangent, but this is one reason Nintendo is so successful; they know the characters sell, while at the same time understanding it’s not the characters but the quality of the game and that really matters and brings customers back for more.

I guess you're trying to be pedantic, but that's never useful when talking about humans, especially human language. And even if we tried to remove the human element, the transliteration is clearly not the same or even an accurate

No, the Japanese word is デバドラ. Once you translate or transliterate it, you’ve diverged from the original and there are choices to be made with different answers depending on context and intent. The example above of “sale” is a good one. In

Why would you expect this to be used for pronunciation? That’s exactly where it wouldn’t make sense. But it would be much better for semantic understanding by non-Japanese speakers, or titles and such like my example in another comment.

It is long, dull, and badly written, but there’s clearly some magic there; why else would millions of children and adults take to the books so deeply despite those flaws? And this was true even before it had the movies to drive marketing. M
