According to their audited financial statements [0] grants accounted for only $388 million against $917 million in expenses (or about 42%). [0] https://uwaterloo.ca/finance/sites/ca.finance/files/uploads&

What do you think a fair wage would be? From personal experience it's a bit more than minimum wage after all expenses which feels fair because the alternatives for unskilled labor are so much worse (retail, McDonald's, etc.)

30 students? Many of my lectures at UWaterloo in Canada were closer to 300. I guess that's why my tuition was only $10k.

This was somewhat of a solved problem with sites like Satoshi Dice. They could still cheat but everyone would find out the next day and stop playing.

Costco is 20% cheaper than all other stations in Toronto. So either Costco is selling at a loss (unlikely) or there's plenty of profit in gas for gas stations.

Nobody buys a new car and sells it two years later with low mileage. That would be a very unusual thing to do (and tax-disadvantageous where I live). They lease it and then ownership ends up with some dealer at the end of the lease.

The manufacturer warranty has a mileage limit which at least in my case was 80k km (less than 60k miles); that's probably why it's missing from the listing you linked to.

Why is it so dumb to buy a used car off the lot? I bought an Audi off lease last year. It's still under warranty, free maintenance (until 80k km), low mileage (37k km), fully loaded with options, and I saved $20k vs a new one.

You obviously don't think it should be free because you think it should come with the obligation to stay in your poor country of birth after graduation. That obligation is worth $100,000s in opportunity cost or more.

It's a rather marginal difference when you're already forgoing $13k a month or more in salary to be an entrepreneur instead of a bigco developer, no? Like, you'd just have to work a month or two extra before quitting to cover

Or maybe they don't have an alternative to earn a decent living and would quit crime if they could find a good job? I don't know that I wouldn't sell drugs if my alternative was flipping burgers at McDonald's for $1000 a

White men represent only 23.3% of NBA players despite white people representing 63% of the greater population of the US. Clearly this is evidence of systemic discrimination against whites and the NBA needs to step up their diversity efforts

The injustice is not (just) Yelp paying $200k instead of $150k, it's an engineer in India with the same skillset earning $30k. Or any number of projects not being undertaken at all because the return is less than $200k. I don't kn

Yes? Paying someone with American citizenship more than someone with Chinese citizenship for the same work should be regarded as unethical as paying a man more than a woman or a white person more than a black person.

I would prefer a push based system like Bitcoin where I can assume 100% control and liability at near-zero cost but I know I'm in an extreme minority. People love zero liability so that's where we are and we all have to pay for it

Of course the products are all marked up to cover the fraud, but it's not like you can opt out of that markup so you might as well take advantage of the convenience.

Why don't you like retailers storing your card? You get all the convenience with none of the risk (if there's any fraud the merchant eats all of it!).

Seriously. I could take years off between jobs if I wanted to because my salary in Canada is so much higher than it would be in Europe. I consider that much better than 5 weeks a year or whatever.
