“Churn” is definitely an issue. And JavaScript does have its own complexities. It feels weird singling out Ruby and JavaScript (and any other individual technologies), though. I wonder if part of this is a human instinct to “other” people w

Shady removal definitely isn’t good. On the other hand, every feature can’t be supported forever (or at least I wouldn’t want to). Seems that communication could’ve been better, though.

Sure did. If I recall correctly (this was about 5 years ago), I probably had 3-4 phone interviews / tech screens out of it, and got hired at a really great place (Mavenlink).

This is cool. However, the blue link text on the black background is impossible to read.

I don't think it's advocating for doing a single pushup. Seems to be about the idea of simple physical tests (walking speed, number of pushups in a minute, grip strength) being better predictors of health than BMI.

This is always a possibility. At least Apple has a business model based on selling devices and services. Unlike Google (or Facebook, for example), monetizing users / analytics / tracking isn't the only option available to the

I imagine that at one point there were people that didn't want to work with people who thought that garbage collection was a good idea. Or IDEs. Or high-level languages.

The product looks really really nice. Wish it had better accessibility, though - from what I can tell, everything is a div :/ No links, buttons, or anything (that I saw in my 5 min of checking it out).

Well said. I'm reading the book now (and watching the lectures), and can't imagine trying to go through it as an undergrad.

I agree. Currently working through the book in Javascript [1], and there isn't a crazy amount of math. Newton's method in the first chapter was a little rough for me, but after that it's much more about exploring ways of repr

Great question! There's no enforcement mechanism, but I can't think of any examples of comments not being addressed before being worked on. Also, so far all RFCs receive comments (between 5 and 50). Tracking RFCs is a good point,

One twist on this concept that we've used effectively at Mavenlink is that there is no approval step. RFCs function more as a communication and participation process before an effort starts, and approval just hasn't felt like a ne

That's fair. Are you saying that because the author studied but never practiced, he/she may not have a great insight into what practicing math would be like? I think I understand what you're saying, and thanks for clarifying.

Just like JavaScript isn’t real programming, eh? I’m not perfect at this, but am trying to get better at not telling others what is “real” programming or math or OO or anything.

I wouldn't think that an RFC would have to come before hacking out a prototype. In fact, doing a prototype is probably a great way of preparing for writing an RFC.

Hard to say that people in medicine, law, or business have easier conditions than you do. What do you do, that's in worse conditions than those fields?
