Wow. I'm a huge consumer of news media and I never saw that this source was revealed. I'm only now learning the identity of the author, but you're absolutely correct that the portrayal was incredibly misleading and I'm i

I would classify this (and much of the current discourse about mis/disinformation) as "not even wrong". It's difficult for me to express my thoughts on the matter without writing a huge, unintelligible screed. The author

I think this is a good answer. I'm not sure that I've personally bought in to the AI revolution, but it sounds like it's generally agreed to be the future. At the same time, there is so much room for basic improvement in the

How important is it, strategically, to have the most advanced process tech? As far as I know, military tech tends to lag commercial significantly.

I don't see micromanagement, I see them getting giant R&D grants and contracts to fulfil US army strategic objectives. A fab owned by US nationals, on US soil, with processes that aren't obsolete. I think that's an import

Most popular "food science" falls into this trap, as far as I've seen. Even my preferred resources such as seriouseats or America's Test Kitchen. A teaspoon of vodka in the dough makes the pie crust flakier? At the very

Yes, it's true that the margins were low, which is a strong indicator for competition. However, I think the weakness in electrification and software makes it clear that there's little true innovation. Legacy automotive turned into

On a semirelated note, what's with all the articles claiming the attack represents an extreme level of sophistication? It sounds like the execution was skilled, but I haven't heard anything yet that seems technically novel or extr

Dismissed by the intelligentsia, like everything he says. Usually they are right to do so, but occasionally I think there is a touch of "orange man bad" syndrome.

Is that "privilege"? Sure, it's power. It's a straightforward extension of the "take-it-or-leave-it" principle you describe. I have the power to tell my boss "I'm not going to work on that", and

This is what I'd consider the "traditional" answer to the function of a union. I think it makes plenty of sense. The parent comment seemed to me to suggest that a union would both keep the door open and the price high, and I

Boeing has software engineer unions. They start at like, ~$70k and after a few years can get up to ~$90k (someone correct me if I'm off, but I don't think I'm very far off).
