As far as I’m aware this is all still untested theory? Much less chance of challenge if you stay within Zone 6. There’s still a lot of creativity to be had.

Without that “gatekeeping” the game would have descended into confused chaos, with no clear rules long ago. Maybe it’s time for change, but we should be grateful that there is still a game to play.

Pardon the snark. But international games always start from St Pancras (and Waterloo once upon a time). If “home games” had that luxury we probably wouldn’t even be discussing this.

Angel. (St Hillary Changes have roundly been seen as whitewash, and rarely affect game-play)

I think that only came in once the signalling went metric? Earl's Court (last time I looked) still had some originals. It's always been shades of grey.

Always nice to see one's national parlour sport on the HN front page. It may seem completely impenetrable on initial and deeper inspection, but I'm sure us Brits will be happy to try to answer any questions.

I think that given the HN audience, we should really be playing the Atlantic version. Not only is the spelling partially reversed, but the Perridale Variation is reduced to a single direction. Forfeiture rules are therefore irrelevant. It&#

My wife and I are convinced that Pokemon is a giant secret extended game of Mornington Crescent played by the younger generation. Which is a comfort.

You missed “gullible”. They’re selecting for the kind of people who wouldn’t immediately bail when they see this nonsense. Or don’t have much choice.

After using Spotify for over a decade I moved to Qobuz, mostly on principle. Most of my library was transferred. The one thing I miss is the recommendations, especially as I like music that isn’t very mainstream. It might be that Spotify’s

It's a narrow use-case that doesn't cover RDMS. SQLite fits it though.

When choosing a school we talked to the headmaster, pupils, teachers, and current parents. That’s far more rich than an inspector’s rushed visit. Not sure what you mean by politics.

Do they? As a parent I consider OFSTED a low quality signal. If you’re reducing a school to a single word, I don’t think you’re taking the job very seriously. I wonder how others feel.

I heard that in the British system there’s a legal principle (or precedent?) that says that a computer system can be considered to do what its creators said it does. I can’t find a citation for this though. Does HN?

From the beatings-will-continue-until-morale-improves school of marketing. No thanks. (And I wonder if advertisers know how their ads are being played? That ad is worth a lot less to Apple on the 5th play, and negative on the 10th).

I use Firefox on iOS (which as we all know is mostly not Firefox). I don't have a google account. Nothing else exotic. YouTube serves me an ad every 3 minutes or so (I've not timed it). If I ever seek in a video, again, an ad. Eve

Sorry it seemed that way, it wasn’t aimed at your reply. Personally I’ve tried both swiping and tapping. I feel out of control with both. FWIW, I had to make 7 corrections typing this comment.

There’s a bit of a trope that people who want hardware keyboards in the era of touchscreens are idiots. I’m one of them. There’s a huge number, and therefore diversity of mobile users. Some of us have different preferences to the mainstream
