Java is not a language I program in. I have used it in the past in its typical environ: over-engineered, over-abstracted monstrosities and during that time I indeed had to refactor a piece of code a couple of times. Currently I work in C++,

Ah, nevermind. I totally misread your comment. Not deleting my comment for the link to the Paredit video. Paredit would be a step in that direction: http://emacsrocks.com/e14.html I also recall editors of old having that functionality (

See cl-who for another example: http://weitz.de/cl-who/#syntax Also, this has nothing to do with functional programming but rather with creating a DSL ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain-specific_language ) More links: • http://www.tfe

Reddit is a nice alternative to Usenet but not really a replacement since it is centralized as opposed to Usenet's distributed nature. As for e-mail, if you have a decent provider spam is a solved problem. It hasn't bothered me for years.

I did have a buzzwords section in my last resume exactly like you mentioned. Me and the people that interviewed me for the company I currently work for had a good laugh about it.

I don't what kind of Mac you've got but I have been running Earth & Beyond (an MMO from 10 years ago) at high framerates in Virtualbox on my 2011 iMac. I did have to enable experimental D3D support.

For a lot of people it applies to plants as well. I wouldn't for the sake of it willfully maim or destroy a plant. That said, I'm also not the kind of guy that watches his footsteps to avoid stepping on ants or grass.

And then people call Lisp unreadable :-( Even though I started out with Algol-like languages I never liked all the different rules for braces, parens, comma's, square braces, assignment, variables, etc. etc. so Lisp was a natural fit for me

I do not share the point of view of those who criticized this approach to making money with open source and I am really happy to see many other people do not agree with it either.

Does it ever get the types wrong? Just curious, I assume one wouldn't want to see the kind of code where VS gets the types wrong.

You are comparing a specific language (Perl 6) with a familiy of languages (Lisp). Some members of the Lisp family are actually very practical, take for example Common Lisp.

The data per ship in EVE is far more than the couple of data points in this simulation. I once wrote a ship builder and simulator for EVE and man there's a lot of variables to take into account: the ship, the pilot, modules, implants, boost

I noticed my usage of recursive functions going up and becoming more natural to me after reading The Little Schemer. Check it out, it is a really nice book.

This can be fixed by editing the keybindings for your shell. Bash by default on OS X? If so Google for ".inputrc", mine looks like this: # See http://www.reddit.com/r/commandline/comments/kbeoe/you_can_make_readline_and_bash_much_more_u

Tablets are devices to consume content and for that I find them ideal. They are also good enough for writing short replies on forums or to e-mails. At this moment I'm consuming HN sitting on the couch with an iPad on my thigh and using one

With the Humble Bundles and Steam (and a lot of AAA titles going for console releases first or only) there has been a real surge in indy games the last 5 to 10 years.

Programming the PC (after the ST with its linear memory space) really felt like a step back in many ways. I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt this way. It actively put me off from programming for a good while (that and Doom) because it

Depending on the language used Emacs and Vim provide these features as well and not just as dozens of brittle extensions. Emacs + Slime for Common Lisp programming is often held up as an example of this. It provides all the features you me

There's a lot of overlap between the two. I'd consider auto-complete.el as a more modern hippie-expand which also includes a nice GUI.
