Most people have already replied why but I just want to touch on the point of updating the OS: I just do not do it. What's the point anyway? I only upgrade when too many apps stop working or when I brick my phone. I think I have upgraded my

This has always been one of my primary reasons to avoid putting time in Microsoft technologies. Luckily with MS becoming increasingly more irrelevant over the years it is easier than ever to ignore them.

It's been a few years but I always enjoyed using Ogre's API. It was nice. That said, Ogre has always been clear about it only being a 3D engine and not a game engine (which add network, sound, input, etc. capabilities).

Not quite, the iPad gig was on OS X using Xcode (ugh!). My first experience developing on iOS was SSH-ing into my jailbroken iPhone. Here are my notes on setting up the development environment but these are old by now and very probably not

Like others have replied already to: look around on the system, to transfer media (mp3, documents, etc.). I also used it to develop and learn the Objective-C on iOS. I didn't have a Mac at the time and didn't really have to money to buy on

May I ask what your age is? Also, when you got the RSI did you have symptoms before that you ignored or was it a binary affair (ie. it just hit you hard one day and you had RSI). I ask since I am 38 now and have been using computers (gaming

Wow, this isn't just advice for those moving to Europe but also how European countries can step up their game and integrate the good ideas from American culture while avoiding the bad.

Yes, this works fine. Been using it for quite a while now for contacts and calendar (and maybe notes too, I'd have to check).

I use the iOS Dropbox client mostly for uploading & syncing pictures and videos between: iPhone, iPad, desktop PCs and laptops. Sometimes for checking files in my Dropbox folder. Dropbox works well on all three OS I use of which Linux i

I don't find the the difference between Emacs and Vim too big, but this is because I rebinded most of Emacs' default keybindings. Vim is faster for most things but not all, having to switch back to normal mode gets in the way sometimes. Ho

You really should put powerful commands like macros on easier keys. I think I used something like this (although not on F1): http://emacswiki.org/emacs/KeyboardMacros#toc6

Isn't '/' in Vim able to search incrementally? It does in evil-mode in Emacs.

Another vote for evil-mode. I'm a long time Emacs user that started using Emacs after being quite proficient in Vim. One reason I switched was for Emacs' Common Lisp environment, the other is I never really liked vi's modal editing paradigm

Agreed on most of your points except a lot of news readers supported the basic markup for bold, italics, underline, etc. one now sees in Markdown & friends.

I haven't looked at the Rosetta code examples but I didn't expect the difference between Common Lisp and Clojure to be so pronounced. I'm mainly a Common Lisp user, does anyone who has used both care to share an opinion?

First of all, I have written only very little Python in my lifetime. Second, I thought the code was pretty clear except for the refresh function in the TextLine and BarLine classes. The only other thing that could use a comment was the tra

Window managers aren't very computationally intensive so a person can use whatever language he is most comfortable with. Although I haven't seen a WM written in Brainfuck yet.

While you're doing the morally right thing by paying for the DVD you are also adding polution to the environment by buying a physical copy (that you do not even use!) just to satisfy a couple of dinosaur corporations that refuse to change.

It has been on my mind to write an Ask HN about syntax highlighting since I have seen a shift in people the last 15 years from preferring no syntax highlighting to preferring the Angry Fruit Salad[1] kind of highlighting. Personally, I like
