And receiving a negative test does not rule out being positive. The false negative rates - even for pcr - are high double digits (and depend on the phase of the infection). Lots of good research proving it, and yet not widely publicized.

Not just slower, also energy hugry. My m1 max running pycharm loses about 10pct of charge an hour on their crappy bundled jvm, and around 4% on the latest java17-based ones, but does act weird at times when using them. Its probably down to

+1 for Cloud Run. I run a few production workloads with it, and its dirt cheap and reliable. It has come a long way over the last two years. As for lock in: we habitually put abstractions between things like key-value stores, messaging and

Long time Topre user here. I have four of those now, had a few more over the years. The best for me is the 45gr uniformly weighted realforce pfu ltd - which allows, with a keypress, to change the actuation point. More shallow for gaming, de

I think the idea was to prevent the attacker from being able to replace the screen without the owner noticing. Replacing the screen may allow the attacker to place own custom hw in the device without the owner noticing (screen is large, has

The point I was trying to make was that this does not, in fact, prevent hacking. It merely presents an inconvenience - as evidenced by the amateur repair technicians being able to defeat it. Apple surely expected that to be possible. Inconv

That was before. Imho that was just wholesale hacking, not specifically targetted at me - but at the "type of person" I was. I then was a nobody working for a very large US company as an it architect. Stayed at an expensive hotel

This has nothing to do with security. Real life security works like this: you leave your device unattended for an hour or two - it can get compromised. Period. If you are serious about opsec - just take this into account. My personal device

Very much this. I run prod workloads with async python and indeed when you have some external I/O that can take a long time to complete - async fixes that. One of my systems does around 8 api calls to service a request. It serves 80,00

Yes. I'd not do it, and I am sure many other would rather look for a different job (which is not difficult) than engage in such acts. Its a personal choice to work for companies acting immorally.

It would be interesting to know what contractor delivered the original $120m mess, and actively sabotaged open source efforts. The combination of large budget and terrible result suggest some of the very large contractors used to doing work

Yup. I, too, call BS on that. I do own a precision laptop with a 8 core xeon and this thing is heavy, noisy and can't work on battery for more than 2hrs under normal workload.

My experience as well. I, too, have a dell precision with a 8 core xeon part, and while it looks decent its heavy and not noticeably faster than the m1 I replaced it with when it came out. The xeon would get hot and noisy when running teams

Another consideration is that, at scale, no sql is way cheaper. I run a service with approx. 900k daily users, each generating about 210 object writes and reads that need to execute within 50ms, and I am running this on firestore for about

You may want to call a professional staffing agency like Randstad or Addecco and ask if they are looking for people with that skillset. They have databases with skill scarcity per area and if you are lucky enough to find a diligent recruite

Yes, I think you are right - I was half joking. Its unlikely the faster websites would free up enough idle cpu time to make up for all that extra time it would take to implement the web with lower level, presumably more efficient frameworks
