I guess it's just something I'd never seen before, impressive at first sight! I did all my physics quite a few years ago and don't remember video analysis like this, although I guess it wasn't really my focus anyway.

I'm less impressed by the skateboarding tricks and more impressed by the physics software that can derive all this from a video.

If I had to guess, I'd put it down to whereabouts in France you live. If you're in the south, it is probably more advantageous to learn Spanish or Italian as your first foreign language. Likewise German in the east/southeas

There are strong rumours going around of Yahoo either being acquired by Alibaba or Softbank. By picking up a share of a very trendy and popular mobile service like Snapchat, this is just more confirmation that they're aiming to be acqu

It was much the same for me with quantum physics. The theory was fine, but the maths was just so much memorisation that I completely lost all enthusiasm. I still get the chills thinking about 4 hour exams with only a single question on th

Yep, dropped Dropbox for SpiderOak ages ago due to a number of really poor security failings on Dropbox's part. (Remember the day they accidentally allowed blank passwords to login to anyones account?)

Personally I think that dropping the bomb was much less about winning the war and far more about winning the post-war. They already knew that they could take Japan, it would be nasty, but they could do it. So from that point of view, the b

At first I was worried this was going to be another patent troll story, but was pleasantly surprised. An actual company doing freelance product development, using the patent system as it was intended. No mention of whether they abuse the

For me a good 90% of it was actually realising my knives were pretty blunt. Or rather, realising just how sharp a knife could be. Once I had that sorted, everything just started going so much smoother as the blade wasn't getting stuc

I thought the article was more a complaint about how AAA gaming is turning to cinematics more and more to wow gamers, rather than gameplay. From one point of view, gameplay is almost the entire point of gaming. But from another, it'

I think only the load balancer would be vulnerable to discovery. Everything behind the load balancer could be a secure connection to a completely different datacenter if needed.

It's a little different on HN due to how the comments are hidden quite quickly when downvoted. I frequently upvote people who reply to me but I disagree with, simply because it would ruin the comment chain and hey, they might just be

From what I remember, they need absolutely crazy tight tolerances in every single join and gap. Something like <0.1mm for every component involved in the reaction chamber. And it's huge too. Otherwise the whole thing will start

Yeah, I've already decided to make my next minor project in cl21 and see how it goes. Got to be minor though as there's a fair bit of syntax still to be nailed down. But as a modernisation project it's looking promising. I

That's pretty much my thoughts exactly. Isn't gamer just a term for someone who plays videogames a lot? Sounds like the article is conflating gamers with "internet assholes", who can come from almost any group that exis

Part of the problem there is in the nature of each sides campaign. The most common way to build an argument is to weigh up the pro's and con's, the upsides and downsides. The "Yes" campaign can promise the world on the

I think part of the problem lies in the question "Where does it end?" Not just UK/England, even within Scotland there are multiple different factions. Once you've set the principle that it's ok to divide a country
