Mostly because of Oracle. They already have a high performance database that they charge a whole lot of money for. All it'll take is a couple of poor earnings reports and they might swing the axe at MySQL as an easy scapegoat. Not so

You're probably not missing anything. By my (limited) reckoning, even if they can get their design to work in theory, I think they're grossly underestimating the materials requirements for the fusion reactor. From what I recall,

The only taxes I can see them being exempt from are local council taxes, not income/VAT/corporation tax. And whilst they are nominally not subject to the Monarchy, nor is the rest of the country really. Much like the Monarchy, th

Seems to be a lot of complaining about the City of London's semi-autonomous status, without actually explaining why this is a bad thing. I've always thought it was just an odd historical quirk. They're still subject to the

Not only are they not as recognised as you think, even if it is commonly known there can be conflicting acronyms across different specialities. eg. During the eurozone crisis they frequently referred to the ECB on the news. I kept transla

That's because self-driving cars aren't a car problem, they're a computer problem. Why would you think that a car company would be experts in machine learning? Doesn't matter how many decades they've been working

The advantage of basic Levenshtein is that it's a heck of a lot quicker (last time I checked) than Damerau-L or Jaro-Winkler in real world applications. And I wouldn't go as far as to say it's useless. Basic Levenshtein only

I was about to say the exact same thing. A lot of rules of writing happen to be current trends in literature, not actual hard and fast rules. Adverbs are a useful language construct; if you teach people not to use them, they'll end up

It's still got nothing on the NHS £10bn IT flop... I always wonder when I hear about these projects, where exactly has the money gone? It can't possibly be in hardware, that would make some of the biggest data centres in the worl

I think I objected less to the length of the career, and more to the reason why the career is so short. In sports, you are very physically limited, you eventually hit your physical peak and then get replaced by someone younger and faster.
