Uber/Lyft offer a better service. Most importantly is reviews/ratings of drivers and riders. But also things like real time tracking of incoming ride, frictionless payments, even just inputting you destination in a map instead o

Marriott doesn't own their hotels, they lease them from third party owners. I would wager that Hilton is doing the same.

Even just backing up your shit to the cloud is way nicer with good upload. Its also a bit of a chicken egg situation. If the majority of internet users had good upload maybe some "killer" p2p apps would be developed.

Its also quite possible were just looking at the past through rose coloured lenses. When reading about how past civilizations live you only read the condensed version, the highlights. Whereas when loving modern times every little flaw and

That's fair assuming that developers put in the effort to write the less fancy version. But if they don't I'd prefer to still have the option to run the software as written with worse performance.

Whether a system "just works" or it requires finagling is or should be an orthogonal discussion to whether it respects you as a user. Its reasonable to ask for both.

An operating system that actually empowered you would give you the tools and options to prevent that, while also letting you run whatever software you desired. I will never understand people's desire to be handcuffed by Apple. Give me

Do you think that a nuclear physicist writing graphics software rather than doing nuclear physics was a net win for society in the long term?

If it became that common it would quickly cease to be that effective. Spearfishing works because it's rare, so it doesn't automatically set off your bullshit detector. Most people don't fall for "cheap vi@gra" emai

I'd argue that has less to do with the merit of cameras and more to do with how little police care about stolen bikes compared to stolen credit cards.

What? Are we reading the same article? As far as I can tell this new rule caps fees at 10%, it doesn't say anything about charging whatever they want, while being more transparent or disclosing the fees more clearly.

I find the ddg search results load faster and are better indexed than the MDN built-in search, same goes for most sites that do their own indexing and are also indexed on big search engines.

That's a messaging/marketing issue, which we regulate all the time. It would be better and fairer to legislate that GrubHub and others must be clear about where their pricing comes from rather than legislating what their prices sh

I find HN has a bias against anything that hurts advertising and user tracking revenue. AMP and Brave seem to get a disproportionate amount of attention.
