I picked it all up from college philosophy courses and practical application of philosophy (yes, it does exist, just not often taught). I plan to eventually earn a Ph.D. in philosophy and currently have enough credit to be between a major a

Cannot agree more on design talent. In my experience, good back end developers (not just adequate, good) are a dime a dozen comparatively. Developers love to think that code is everything, but as many have learned, it's the business th

This is the tip of a really trashy iceberg when it comes to general healthcare costs. Not only is consistent prices by patient a problem, but prices by procedure and by hospital has a huge range as well, as documented many times. An operati

Agreed completely. I would suspect that BS/MS and Ph.D. interviewees would be very distinct from a straight MS, but this was a missed opportunity to look at that, even if it is just interview performance.

I think the key mistake this piece made is assuming that having an elite education stops you from being culturally and socially aware beyond your class. Sure, many top colleges don't teach this, but as someone who grew up in a family w

There's a subtle argument here philosophically that I think is crucially tied to AI: determinism. If the world is deterministic, a sufficiently powered and advanced AI with enough data could actually predict the weather, not just for t

I think that's a very valid question. I think Pyret is attempting to reach out to people who may not view Lisp's favorably and still convey many of the valuable concepts. Whether or not it is the right approach or if it will trans
