Can we have a moratorium on Pokemon Go posts? It is getting really annoying, especially since submissions regarding it have absolutely no value.

Interesting, I did not know either of that.

Very frequently police claim the deadly force was inevitable until a video surfaces that completely denies that. Take every police account of a shooting with a bag of salt.

With CSS? It's just easier to do this with Javascipt without hacking the history.

You can also write less n+1 queries if you think or god forbid, benchmark and refactor your code.

I have done all of those, but by that time I was aquatinted with the people I work with. During an interview you're stressed by strangers and the interview itself. For instance, I interviewed people who froze up simply by being on an i

You can actually, you know, talk to the candidate and find out if they fit. Wanting them to perform in front of a whiteboard is completely different.

A barista would be making coffees as part of their job. Not sure how many programmers code on whiteboards in stressful situations on a daily basis.

This is different than soft skills though. White board tests test one thing really: your ability to write code under stress while being watched by 2-3 people. I fail to see how that translates to being able to communicate with other people.

I'm not saying the article doesn't have merit but with a title like this it looks just like karmawhoring.

I have an iPhone but most of my friends don't. I don't even remember the last time I opened up iMessage. This update won't change that.

How big are the projects you are working on though? For instance I work an a 2 year old Angular project and static typing is something we are trying to introduce because the codebase is large and challenging to work with, mostly because Jav

My experience is that the decision to switch is often being made for you. I was perfectly happy with Grunt until some plugin maintainers didn't update the Grunt version and only worked on Gulp.

You're arguing against a strawman, develop some reading comprehension before you insult people.

Grunt is actually not still fine to use. I've been burnt by a lot of plugins coming out for Gulp only and now for webpack only. What the GP says is true: if you start using any of these JS tools prepare to switch them out every 6 month

I use around 1-3 variables per module and 4-5 modules per playbook. Other than that, the actual tasks are trivial (install package x etc.)

I have quite a few variables, yes. One of the files I change frequently is an external configuration file filled with credentials which is managed through variables. It looks something like this: {% for cred in credentials %} {{cr

Can anyone comment on the speed of Ansible 2+? I have a bunch of playbooks that still use 1.8 and they are dog slow. Changing the contents of one file can take ~10 minutes. (Interestingly, running the entire playbook on a clean server is ac

Thank you! They changed the whole site so I thought Hanami popped up from nowhere. I checked it out when it was still called Lotus, looked really interesting. Good to see this project gaining ground.

I have 2 main concerns going forward with any Rails alternative (ie. Trailblazer and the like): community support and jobs. I have no idea how big the community behind each library/framework is and honestly I don't have the time t

That definitely was my experience with Arch. In my early twenties it was fun and I learnt a lot but it was also a huge time sink. Come to think of it, that was my problem with desktop Linux in general: small things broke frequently and ofte

It's hardly a walled garden when you can take your entire repo (including commit history etc.) and go to another provider or go with your own git server.

Grunt and gulp are fine as long as you don't use them for everything, ie. fine for asset management but not for copying files/folders or in cronjobs etc. Bash is much better for that.
