Yeah, some of the measures were curious, such as unique keywords per 10,000 papers. It isn't clear to me what we should expect if science was doing fine -- more unique keywords total, yes, but per 10,000 papers? Why? In general, I thin

There's a pretty good "Talking Politics" podcast on Rawls: https://play.acast.com/s/history-of-ideas/rawlsonjustice Sadly, that series has ended, but there's a lot of good stuff: https:/&

Hard question, because usually it's implementation more than the idea that matters. Something like Daggerfall (huge, procedurally generated world for an RPG) combined with a much more dynamic AI that generates political events, quests,

All decision-makers should go to jail in such cases. Then they would work harder on making blame clear.

Good reminder that I need to migrate my data away from Google. They are notorious for terrible customer support. I'd rather pay someone competent.

We have all sorts of slack channels set up to coordinate activity, so that internal customers can talk to engineers easily, or engineers can engage with each other. If slack goes down, we'd have to work all that out. For many days, it

Don't drag in ad-hominem attacks. If you want to defend Go's approach, explain why having it be the "operator's explicit responsibility" is a good policy, likely to make apps (in general) more secure. The obvious im

We can learn a lot from digging into our stress responses. Changing it is much harder, but learning is a start.

In many situations, that is unrealistic. Somebody has to pay for me (or some other engineer) to set up and maintain said open source. It is often cheaper to just pay for the offering. There is business risk in being trapped in non-free, but

Just fuels my cynicism about "free" offerings. Sooner or later, companies decide they want to monetize as much as possible. I'm not saying it's unfair. But it makes me less interested in trying things just because they a

True, but if you want to buy something of value, those things do take effort. Pumping in more money doesn't create value.
