   Like I said in other comments, my post is supposed to repudiate the presupposition that quitting alcohol is a priori desireable. I’m fine!

   I think so - I grew up in a very alcohol-loving part of the US and attended a party school on an athletic scholarship. I am physically attractive and have lots of male friends, so I don't think I'm socially defective. I simply spe
