I'm not seeing any mention of the drastically lower tourism for 2020/21 due to Covid. Is there any hypothesis for how this might effect things? Sunscreen? Boat emissions? They mention the tourism drives a ton of dollars, but it al

I don't think this is true if you factor in the Total carbon from the process of actually electrifying the roads. Its a ton of cabling made out of a ton of metal that needs to be mined.

I used alcohol as an example, and should have been more clear that it was _just_ an example. I'm sure you and I could find common ground where we believe that carrot/stick approach is dumb, but that some rule should be passed.

to add to this, there is a hilarious plague of "second order" thinking in government, while ignoring first order. We got into this mess with things like the 21 year old drinking age. The federal government doesn't have the au

Chicken pox may be harmless as a child. That virus also causes shingles and that is NOT harmless as an adult. edit to add: things like HPV seem harmless, but HPV infection is linked to the vast majority of cervical cancer. Things like epste

Bronze and iron are pretty common. Our house has iron in the basement and pvc in a renovated bathroom upstairs. I expect you’re just luck to have never repaired an iron one. (They are hard to remove)

They are less durable than a bronze one, and, when your toilet flange goes wrong, you have a major problem. Personally, I like PVC for being light, easy to modify, and definitively waterproof.

Opportunity cost - you locked up your money and it lost value due to inflation instead of being put into something that kept pace with inflation. Obviously, this is counterfactual, but that is the premise.

The best use cases for AR _are_ enterprise use cases, IMO. AR seems to be a natural way to interact with design, instruction, warnings, etc. it is not obvious that the same features yield much for the entertainment user, because AR provides

Homeowners already pay "rent" in the form of property tax. Depending on where you are, this might be quite a high payment already. For a mortgage holder with property tax, a great deal of that payment is fees and taxes already.
