Although you could also argue that building a PC from scratch is a far less exceptional case than building a car.

Agreed. In my experience fish just runs a heck of a lot faster than either zsh or bash as well as adding some features I love, like the command syntax highlighting and autocomplete. I couldn't see myself going back to either of those a

The issue with the PS3's UI is that it's seen a marked increase in complexity since the initial release, coupled with less resource access. As it stands the PS3's XMB has access to about 80mb of RAM, the rest is reserved for

+1 for Transmission. I'd also like to add that their OS X GUI[0] is _stellar_, far cry from any other BitTorrent clients I've used. Coupled with its low resource usage and the aforementioned web interface, I've found it hard

Yep I've been totally outclassed. I've only recently started getting into the online aspect of Pokémon so I still have a ton to learn with regards to strategy. Though does the speed stat really matter all that much outside of firs

It would be extremely cool if they'd expose information such as what moveset each Pokémon has available to them so I could make queries like 'what water type Pokémon that can learn Hydro Pump has the highest Special Attack stat&#x

I'm going to say Bulbasaur has the edge here. Pikachu has a pretty decent speed stat, but it doesn't have access to many worthwhile moves. Let's talk about the build you'd use to pretty decisively beat a Pikachu. Pikachu

Though it should be pointed out that GTA V has launched without any DLC to speak of. I'm sure they'll do it eventually as they did for GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption, but the DLC for those two games was more akin to an expansion p

I think it's simply a case of a lot of the current flat design examples out there being targeted at Android. Prior to iOS 7 most iOS apps went for the heavily bevelled and textured look. As a result most of the good examples of flat de

I'd like to throw in a mention for LittleBigPlanet 2[1] on the PS3 as well. The first game in the series allowed users to create their own platforming levels using simple but powerful tools, which more talented creators used to build t

Dynamically rendering at a lower resolution and then upscaling it to get a consistent 60fps is such a cool technique. The first example I ever saw of using a dynamic frame buffer in that way came in the form of WipEout HD on the PS3 back in

Awesome to see you guys finally launched this. I was another finalist in Hackagong (a local hackathon here in Wollongong, Australia) when the initial version of this was being built and I loved what I saw. I'll have to keep it in mind

There's a lot of issues with the new player. Even if you've buffered the video ahead, when you try to skip to a buffered segment the video starts loading again. On top of that I've had lots of issues where changing the video

The script just fetches the project's git submodules which you can see here: https://github.com/octokit/octokit.objc/tree/master/External I'm not sure all of those can be set up as CocoaPod dependencies though.

Pretty nice, one thing I'd say is that the preview view should respect the user's theme setting. If I'm using the dark colour scheme, go to preview what I've been working on and suddenly have a bright white screen thrown in my face it puts

There's no shortage of simple OAuth consumer libraries out there, what I really want to see is a simple way to set up my app as an OAuth _provider_. As far as I know there's nothing out there to make that simple yet.

Also it's good to see the community filling in gaps that exist in the development process. I got introduced to ember_tools[1] just yesterday and it looks like a great way to provide Rails-style generators for Ember projects. [1]: https://g

It's great to see the Ember.js team focusing on these things as the framework approaches a 1.0 release. I've built a few apps on top of Ember over the past few months and that initial learning curve was what lead me to almost abandon it.
