The key distinctions are: we can hold people accountable, and the amount of shit produced by one person is limited. Neither of those are true for LLMs.

In fact I'd argue it's the _exact_ opposite. I've seen countless engineers architect big complicated systems that are completely unnecessary. If anyone was measuring, they'd realize the impact of that system was: no incr

If you don't want to have any say in the work that you're doing, then sure don't judge based in impact. I'd rather have the responsibility and trust of letting me decide what to work on, rather than management tell me. T

FYI that burnout is not "working a lot". Burnout is the feeling of little control, ineffectiveness, COMBINED with stress. Working weekends could instead be an indication of excitement and enthusiasm, which as a manager is worth nu

Yeah I think my complaint still stands, which is that they already tried this where I live, and having a literal train straight downtown did not incentivize building there at all.

I have light rail literally a 5 minute walk from my house in an inner ring suburb, and I never use it. It was built to go downtown 100 years ago, and I never go downtown for anything. It's completely stuck, has to still cross over stre

It sounds like your describing models. Yes we have small models. Yes we have big models. We have rat models, we have matching models, we have twin models. We have lots of models I don't know about. I'm not sure what you're ge

There are ALL kinds of things we can't run experiments on. Climate, society, evolution, tech development, surgery, and more. We don't throw our hands in the air and say "science here is impossible!". Instead we roll up o

Haven't you heard? The new president will fix this too! No more of these suspicious graphs! In all seriousness, wish there was more happening to fix this.

I really appreciate this article, and I would like the author to know that there are lots of people - yes, especially in tech - that support their happiness.

Baby steps! Let's do both. Let's rid ourselves of a foreign adversaries influence, then let's ALSO get more competition and reduce big techs influence. Why not both?

Maybe! Hard to tell. Personally I don't think big tech should own this space, I'd love to see a variety of companies and lots of startups. I'll leave it to the reader to decide if I'm astroturfing.

Thank you! I can't believe how much defense I see of TikTok on here. Is this website being specifically targeted for astroturfing, or has TikTok been that effective in spreading its propaganda? (And which one is scarier?)

One night ultimate werewolf fixes a lot of this. Many roles, easy narration, and no player termination (everyone plays every round).

Kinda funny that in an article about translations, the author gets signal-to-noise completely backwards. A high signal to noise (over 9000) is very good. It means you are getting a lot of signal with very little noise. Decreasing signal to

It means they live long enough to reach a point where stairs are no longer possible for them. Not sure I agree necessarily but the point makes sense - live to old age. It serves the elderly, of which we all want to be one (eventually).

I don't think that live doesn't work with caches. No one watching live would care about a O(s) delay, which is highly amenable to caching at ISPs and streaming changes from there to downstream clients. Offhand I'd say that wo

Honestly I think Trump would have labeled him "3-home Bernie"[0] or something and sunk him, similar to how he sunk Warren (w/ the Pocahontas meme). Don't get me wrong, Bernie is my favorite, but no one is immune to Trump

Preach! The job is straightforward - lot of these decisions they make are very clearly articulated by LLMs. We need more businesses, more competition, not bigger businesses.
