They have flexible PCB on a contact lens, and an anecdote by the CEO. "Functioning" is too generous.

I measured the concentration of lead in the hot water from my kitchen faucet. My plumping is copper with lead solder, so I expected some but not too much. The result was 105 ppb. This is insane when you consider that Flint's level was

66 dB at 1kHz 86 dB at 10kHz (ouch my ears) This is not at all flat and the implementation suggests it has low gain at lower frequencies. Without publishing of a full response curve this seems like nothing more than university PR. Any comme

If anyone is curious about how this started, Asianometry (a favorite channel of mine) has a video about how Gogoro built their network in Taiwan https://youtu.be/xZigLuaijsI

This is an interesting perspective but it only applies in cases where the use case doesn't already exist. For example, shoes are exempt. Another example I like is wood working tools. I need to cut wood in a certain way; buying a miter

With proper ventilation this isn't an issue. My kitchen is centrally located, so I installed a range hood made by a Chinese company (Fotile, approximately $1300 on Amazon). It works exceptionally well. Even the smokiest/smelliest

If wood stays dry it will last for centuries. Of course given the climate here you'll need to maintain and eventually re-shingle your roof (In the same region and my 34 year old tar shingle roof sprung a leak a few days ago) but if you

This is pretty cool. It looks like the cost of LEDs is by far the largest blocker to scaling this or making it a consumer product (if that's even intended). I suspect it's because they're esoteric frequencies are high precisi

If you also felt sad after listening to this, I recommend "Dear Old Stan" by The Dreadnoughts. It's a nice homage.

I had the same issue ("1000/35" with Xfinity but in reality it was barely 10/1) but keep checking because CenturyLink is regularly bringing fiber to new areas. For the same price I can get 1000/1000 symmetric now.

This is super cool and the video explanation is very intuitive. Robotic manipulators seems like the obvious application; I wonder how the torque transmission compares to a more traditional arm design.

Those are all tractable problems. I don't mean overall, but the impact of all of those things on you is something you can control. It's possible that society has imposed ridiculously stringent "requirements" for raising

Depends on the property. The article specifically refers to low-income tenants presumably renting low-cost housing. The security deposit is 2mo rent and you don't need to chase them for it. Probably not too many slumlords on HN, as evi

"When you build it" is missing from this list. In my experience, the "when" often tends to take precedence over the "how" and occasionally over the "what" as well.

I recall seeing this technology in Popular Science many years ago. It's a great idea but they have yet to demonstrate a full scale prototype. There's probably a lot of technical hurdles just to making a whole new type of engine. B

This isn't anything enterprise software companies haven't been doing for decades. John Deere just didn't set expectations. If there's enough demand for an open alternative, that's a business opportunity. Personally
