"Hi mum. Plug your iPad into iTunes and click 'add device to authorized list' under the Advanced menu when dad is logged into his iTunes account." That one actually isn't too hard to walk people through on the phone. I did it with my mom

You can copy the text. It just doesn't have the outline to show you what's selected. Which is quite annoying, yes.

The potential is there to re-ignite a new closed source era, and that's definitely not revolutionary. Just because the app runs on the iPhone or iPad doesn't mean it has to be closed source. I can see how that would be useful if you only

It shows the name and destination of the next three trains, and the stations that the next train stops at. Not sure why we don't have these in the US. The LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) does; it shows the final destination at top and all th

Personally, I don't go to school to learn or for the piece of paper at the end. I'm smart (or arrogant) enough to think that I can learn anything I need to pretty quickly. I go to school to find professors (and other students, for that matt

It could very well be that I'm tired and missing something, but I don't see where it says that in the TC article. And I don't personally run Firefox, so I can't go through the pages of designs on the page linked to in the TC quote to verify

Only problem with that theory is that the images were uploaded by the project lead on Mozilla's part, not some random intern.

And if nothing was said, do you think that Mozilla would have made their own design up or simply continued with the stolen one?

I wasn't offended. It just seems like a bit of an overreaction, to compare some people being unable to sell software in a store to state-sponsored genocide on a massive scale. I like having my app on the App Store as much as the next iPhone

Can't say I laughed. Figured I'd say why I wasn't a fan of the comment. May be worth noting that I didn't downvote it?

Doesn't dehydra do static analysis for C++ code? In which case, of course it would do better then clang; clang doesn't even claim to have complete c++ support yet.

The data for this list is collected by TorrentFreak from several sources, including reports from all the large BitTorrent trackers. So they counted a rather large number of votes multiple times?

Yes, but not WWDC from previous years, which is what I was thinking that Select/Premier would have access to.

Had to fax (or email, although, iirc, they stressed that they preferred fax, when I called up about it) a copy of your Student ID + schedule in.

I know Select and Premiere had access to more videos than I did with ADC Student. I had thought that it was simply everything. Guess not. Thanks for the correction.

$99 used to be ADC Student, which came with one, nonrenewable hardware discount (one discount, regardless of how many times you renew) and possibly a WWDC student scholarship (you had to apply for it). $500 was ADC Select, which had one ren

We've already seen the iPad App Store. Its demoed by Steve Jobs in the iPad unveiling. It is basically the iPhone app store, with a UI that's more suited to the iPad.

You're assuming that the reviewers are programmers; don't. The review process was changed a month or two back; from something along the lines of "Will the app crash? Does it look like its doing anything evil?" to something closer to `automa

That's like saying 10 years ago, no one is forcing you to use Windows. But, no one was forcing you to use windows 10 years ago; I was using Mac OS 9 almost daily, in addition to Windows 2000.

Why wouldn't a netbook+ChromeOS win? A netbook is more of the same, its what we already have. The iPad is something new and different. And, I've never even seen a video of a device using ChromeOS. I can't seem to bring myself to have a

Yes. I can type faster on my iPod touch or my friend's iPhone then I can on his netbook that he uses in class. With the iPhone (and likely iPad), you'll know what to expect from the device soon enough. With the netbook, I can never quite sh

Might I suggest that you look into a language with Actors before saying that Actors are difficult to figure out? Personally, I'm a huge fan of Io[1], which uses Actors extensively. Io has an incredibly minimal syntax that you (or any smart

Institutional problems can be as hard to fix as technical problems. Whats going on at Adobe might be both types of problems. (Not to say Apple has an institutional problem, but, speaking in general.)

The closest thing that I can think of is -webkit-user-select, although I'm not sure if thats available on the iPhone. Nor would it let you change UIMenuController behavior. I suspect that if it is possible, it would be under an NDA. That is
