This is written in the style of someone who worships software development, but is not themselves a professional developer and therefore has spent zero time working on a team to build something more complex than, say, a webpage. I recognize

I joined in '09 and I think I've changed pretty substantially, so the idea that this or any website would lock-in to a particular viewpoint isn't realistic IMO. And you're being awfully reasonable now, once we'v

But that's a fundamentally different view than "All VC funding is bad"; there are tons of risks involved and many actors aren't good in every industry, why specifically does venture capital draw your ire?

I am so curious why you repeatedly spit in the collective face of the millions of small business owners in the US and around the world. If what you say were true, the world would exist as a series of 3-5 megacorps, and small businesses wo

All commenting is attention seeking, my question was: why do it antagonistically like this? And further, why go on a (holy) mission to convince people funding companies is bad? That's a weird windmill to tilt at...

My impression is that when fly.io has been discussed in the recent past on HN, its founders/employees/whatever swarm the comments to try and control the conversation, heh.

The N+1 problem feels a bit like y2k in my experience; would definitely be a problem if smart folks didn’t come up with clever solutions, but since they did it’s not nearly the issue it’s made out to be for the average implementer.

This is helpful, thanks! By "boring", I see that as a good thing; you want auth to be boring, is my point. Intellectually stimulating it is in any event (I enjoy learning systems), but I want the process to be me learning how i

As a startup, I very much do not want to innovate or be in any way "creative" when implementing functionality that isn't my company's core value prop for customers. So for something like AuthZ I want to be as conformi

As someone who's had to implement these things for our B2B SaaS, I will say it's been a lot less clear how to be as minimally innovative as possible when trying to weave in AuthZ into our product than it is to avoid innovation in

Of all the things humans participate in to try and forget we eventually die, rejecting the one thing that makes humans special (our society, culture) seems to be to be among the most myopic viewpoints to take. Mostly because it's so se
