Reddit (and now HN) is the only source that shows this on the front page - I wouldn't have heard about it otherwise. Corporate news outlets have kept it from the front page.

How much should people care about this who live in various radiuses? I.e., within 200 miles, is there zero cause for concern? Or is the type of thing that will do something like remove five years of life on average for people within five mi

I find it hard to believe that pulling electricity from the grid would increase carbon emissions vs. a vehicle burning gas in its own engine. How is that possible?

Why is it confusing to use “Ludwig” as a filter? Nobody is going to get confused what site they are on based on the name of a filter. In fact, it’s less confusing than having to rename filters for each product.

Is there a router you use that makes this easy and isn’t just as compromised as the air filter?

That's probably true, and likely why the commenter finds that a CEO "taking responsibility" is so obnoxious. Either the CEO is implying that they aren't always responsible, which is bogus, or they are stating an obvious

Has Kiwi Farms now been kicked off the internet? It doesn’t show up in Google, there is no link on the Wikipedia page, and a more recent Cloudflare announcement says they stopped providing DDoS protection service.

I’m not very well versed in crypto so I apologize if this is off-base. Are you saying that “working as advertised” means that a crypto blockchain is adjustable by a centralized authority?

Pivoted to a B2B API in the same sector but fairly unrelated features-wise. Basically they had a few B2C customers who had a more pressing problem than forecasting, and the company provides an API for other companies to solve that problem f

Holy moly doesn’t that sound more like tax evasion or fraudulent accounting than financial planning? They’re trying to pay less tax by convincing your company to put a different price on products they buy based on their tax strategy. It sou

This is really interesting but they’re using a network of bots already - even if you put a spinner that makes them wait a couple seconds the scrapers would just make more parallel requests no?

This makes a lot of sense to me. What do you think about their other assertion that the search page is getting a gigantic number of hits that a/ cannot be cached and b/ cannot be rate limited because they're using a botnet?

Ahhhhh, search results makes a whole lot more sense! Thank you. Search can't be cached and the people who want to use your search functionality as a high availability API endpoint use different IP addresses to get around rate limiting.

I appreciate the response but I’m still perplexed. It’s not about the percent of traffic if that traffic is cached. And rate limiting also prevents any problems. It just doesn’t seem plausible that scrapers are going to DDoS a site per the

Thanks for the explanation! The thing I still don’t understand is why (edit server not cdn) caching doesn’t work - you have to identify customers somehow, and provide everyone else a cached response at the server level. For that matter, rat

Do you really believe bots make up a significant amount of Twitter’s operating cost? Like I said they’re just accessing cached tweets and are rate limited. How can the bot usage possibly be more than a small part of twitter’s operating cost

Reading your comment my impression is that this is either an exaggeration or a very unique type of site if bots make up the majority of traffic to the point that scrapers are anywhere near the primary load factor. Would someone let me know

The flopping in animations on this are really annoying in my opinion. It makes me think the product will be equally annoying to my friends so I didn't sign up even though the concept interests me.

I agree completely with this, but the one problem is that you haven’t addressed how we control spam without these “trusted” intermediaries. “Trusted” here meaning that they aren’t spammers.

Because it was stored in KeePass it sounds very likely that you’re copy pasting it into LastPass, which could have been intercepted by any malware that accessed the clipboard. Especially if you allow clipboard access to your phone from your
