I run through so many companies, I usually forget where I found them within a few minutes of finding them. My guess is that I actually heard about you guys through HN or something that I found on HN. I really should get better about trackin

We (and by we, I mean I) have contextual job advertisements across a lot of the site. If you don't look closely you'll miss it, but it's really effective—and users actually seem to find it useful. (~50% of 2010 revenue) We also do direct ad

This was a fun company to profile. I really enjoy learning about companies that help publishers monetize their content—maybe because it took me a long time to figure out how to monetize mine.

Most people also didn't use their real name online. Facebook played a huge role in changing that.

The key point is that click fraud will be the downfall of Google, not users' switching to a different search engine. I disagree. The beauty of Google's ad model is that it's extremely sensitive to market forces. This means that click fraud

You never had your VCR eat a VHS tape? Definitely happened to me a few times. And the whole having to rewind thing was kind of annoying too. I'd take a DVD over a VHS any day, even if the picture quality was the same.

I don't know the answer, but I presume that 40 lbs of fat requires far fewer calories to maintain than 40 lbs of lean body mass. Does the 11/cal/day/pound rule of thumb apply to fat? Muscle?

I'll add that if you have invite e-mails that people can send to friends, you better explain your startup in the e-mail. I've received invites from legit startups that looked exactly the same as spam invites that I've received.

"To shut off such an important asset in the history of Web 2.0 really means they’ll pull the plug on anything." I wonder if we'll ever see "historic districts" on the web in some form. I can't come up with any idea of how it would work, but

I didn't intend to insinuate that Borders in particular try to sell me crap, just that plenty of stores do. The fishing section in any Wal-Mart or Target is a perfect example. I should note, though, that the eReader devices that Borders has

I go to Borders all the time to find things I should buy on Amazon. I rarely buy anything. Why would I when I can get the same book half price and have it in 2 days (or now instantly on my Kindle)? Borders doesn't offer enough additional va

I think that humans have an inherent problem with seeing piracy as theft unless they are the victims. Theft in a traditional sense is almost always zero-sum, and piracy isn't. We weren't really built to deal with this. The closest thing tha
