I've had the same exact thing happen to me, but I'm the startup founder and my girlfriend is a management consultant. She's been known to take her laptop out to bars.

Gab Goldenberg at http://seoroi.com/ did a little bit of free link building work for me (because I helped him with some other stuff), and he did an excellent job. I haven't heard from any of his clients, but he's active in the SEO communi

I like Rand's proposed solution, and I'm confident that the folks at Google can come up with something even better and more effective. I'm finding that natural link building is getting harder and harder. Much of this is because social media

I tried the diet that he outlines here: http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/2007/04/06/how-to-lose-... I only did it for a few weeks before I went on vacation, but it worked really well. Not sure that I lost 20 lbs of fat, but I definite

Maybe David's next project can be Infomercials for Hackers: How to Overcome Your Fear of Marketing-speak. I think that a lot of people leave money on the table because they think that everyone else on the Internet has the same spam radar th

I completely agree. I just started using Optimizely today, and the ability to make a small change instantly across all pages on your site is extremely valuable.

During my Freshman year of college (2002), I was taking Econ 101. It was a class of probably 500 students, and our tests were multiple choice. By the time I got back to my dorm room, the answers to the test were always up on the course webs

I don't agree. Readiness for funding should not be a litmus test for whether a business is a "startup." There are plenty of startups that never need funding. I think that if you want to differentiate between startups and self-employment, a

Look the same places. Then go to the company sites and look at their job listings. A lot of them will have non-technical positions posted. I do this a lot when I'm looking for new companies to cover (I run an editorial jobs-focused site).

It makes sense that links that are only found in the sitemap don't get indexed. Unless you link to the sitemap somewhere on your site (not including in robots.txt), then you're not going to pass any PageRank to the sitemap, and it's not goi
