Having had a Groupon shouldn't preclude a business from offering other promotions. Typically you can't combine a Groupon with another offer, so if a restaurant has 20% off Mondays and you use a Groupon, they'll probably charge you full pric

The article says that 23% of students are "college ready" in NYC. That's probably way too low, but what is the goal? I hope it's not 100%. College isn't for everyone, and I think that it's misguided to make college preparation the primary g

It looks to me as though they should try the original headline without the social proof. Since the Control beat Variation 1, but Variation 2 beat both, that would seem to be a logical next step.

Would you rather have them spend hours replying to thousands of e-mails from companies they don't want to cover? Or spend the time covering more companies? I know it sucks not to get a response, but that's the way they operate. My company w

I think that they must have transposed the labels. The graph must mean that a student who goes into Harvard leaves an $80,000 a year salary and after two years gets a $115,000 a year salary. That doesn't tell us all that much unless we know

Matt, this is great news. How about sites that rank well with no content, just navigation? Here's an example: http://www.collegegrad.com/entryleveljob/entrylevelaccountin... It's generally a high quality site, but that page has absolutely

Unwillingness to invest in themselves or work towards improving themselves (or a lack of realization that they need to do these things). Most job seekers have a "take me as I am" attitude. Even new grads who should be all pumped up about le

You hit on the second biggest flaw that I spot in job seekers (and startup founders). They focus too much on their own wants/needs and not enough on the needs of the people they're trying to sell to.

As someone whose startup is focused on helping new grads land jobs, I've learned that most job seekers focus on the job search process. They try to find better jobs, improve their resume, network, and do other things that will help them sel

I don't think that not wanting to invest in someone who has recently shown a complete failure in judgment is much of a limiting belief. If you can't take other people's lives seriously, how can you be expected to take other people's money s

Most of this post was over my head since I'm not a programmer, but I really enjoyed the part where Stammy explained what caused his site's revenue to fall. I'll be interested to see how this change affects his search rankings.

I have a friend who works at a well known management consulting firm. One of his clients insisted that every deck was done in Comic Sans. The client already had a bad reputation, and this quirk just made it worse.

Even if search engines stop sending keywords in referral data, the ad networks and webmasters will still be able to piece together your browsing history. Every day there is less and less anonymity on the web, and for the most part people ar

I got rid of domain privacy a few years ago. I don't get all that much spam to my personal e-mail account which is associated with my domains. I've also heard that some people see domain privacy as a sign of a potentially scammy/spammy site

I agree that your product should be your #1 focus. Lots of users landing on a site that offers a poor experience is a waste. However, the problem with that is that investments in SEO compounds over time. Not only are aged links valuable, bu
