Best Buy is kind of doing this with their "buy back" program. If Apple continues becoming more and more predictable in terms of product release dates and pricing, I could almost see a startup doing this on their own. You buy Apple upgrade i

I'm not running a job board, but I run a jobs website. That's a pretty small market for a job board. Companies that operate in markets that size usually have dozens/hundreds/thousands of properties. SEO is often huge for job boards. If you

I lost money the first year. I was profitable in name only the second year. I made a profit that would almost cover my rent the third year. Now I'm in my 4th year, and I'm actually making a living. January and February covered all of my exp

Is it Sheen Me dot me? Or Sheen Meme? Either one works. I just went to check if AsSheenOnTV.com was taken. Apparently someone already had that idea.

Call her before you go to bed... This would actually create an interesting problem. If you have a hardware switch and a software timer, then the switch is going to be wrong sometimes.

That's a really good suggestion. I mostly use the tag pages to flow linkjuice throughout the site, and it seems to work pretty well. I'll think more about how I can improve my site architecture. But I was doing pretty well until Thursday. T

E-mail is a great way to reach job seekers. I know because I've built a business on it. The key is being able to build an audience of talented people who are excited about opening your e-mails. If you do that and can deliver quality candida

Find a way to generate enough revenue to pay them, get funding or a loan, or trade time for equity. If you can't get one of those three to work and you can't do the work yourself, then you don't really have much of a startup.

Is breaking Google's rules now a PR/link building tactic? WSJ didn't link to Overstock.com in their article, but if they did, then Overstock would have built a really strong, legitimate backlink as a result of their illicit practices. I als

Yes, the larger job boards buy a ton of traffic, but they also spend a lot on branding. Just watch the Super Bowl. There are also many successful niche job boards that don't buy traffic. I find that most of them rely heavily on organic SEO

The same reason that it costs money to advertise on television. The job board has an audience, and you want to reach it. Attention is expensive. Building an online talent community isn't easy. I know since I've been doing it for the past 3.

I'd be wary of how people pronounce your domain name. My first instinct is to say RAPE-EE-OH. That obviously has a bad connotation. I think as long as it's clear that it's a rap site, you'll be ok though.
