Lack of opportunity plays right back into lack of good education. Your family made up for it at home. Most do not. Go to the south and you see this in action every second of every day. The south hates education, hates social services, hates

For years, my father would say "that guy using the food bank has an iPhone! I don't have an iPhone, and I'm not poor. How can these people afford iPhones?" It's a generational thing, especially. iPhones are seen as

Just as a personal anechdote: I have cable for one reason -- my local cable provider has a monopoly on the A's. I cannot watch the A's play babeball without a $75 per month Comcast subscription. It is not included with the $30 shi

I feel like both of your stories could easily be rewritten and replace videogames with sports. Many people spend their high school and college lives completely dedicated to football, basketball, baseball, or hockey with the idea that they&#

It's a really interesting approach, considering how rampant Wii hacking was. Maybe instead of hacking the consoles, pirates will just buy dev kits, paying Nintendo a bit of a premium for the privilege? Maybe they're hoping to make

We're sorta working on this, small though the preservation world is. Frank Cifaldi has founded a non-profit specifically to do this, and themade.org is behind Habitat.

I would not quite call it a developer game, just more like a very involved and deep simulation. The barrier to new players is steep, but there are lots of easy-to-use third party tools to make the game more friendly [1]. It's certainly
