So that no-one will seriously misread it as such, I'll explain that I meant threatening a family, rather than...family like perks.

I'd argue, as a 22 year old economist just entering the workforce, that the fact that people just entering their retirement hold the most wealth is quite a social problem. For instance, the ability of the older wealth to influence politics.

And we could threaten someone's family to show the counterpoint to that point. Money's a great motivator until you're near your threshold earnings, and then other things start slipping in, like, for instance, the ability to make a point. Th

there's something off about suggesting tenure is about teaching, or that universities are about students. Tenure is about, more than teaching style, research, and primarily, actual teaching is left to grad students and teacher's aides.

Things smarter than humans do already exist, in most every specific feild. Whether the 'hard problem' of AI can be solved remains to be seen, and the current political/economic feedback in industrialized countries leads t a different distop

At a recent family gathering, my father's generation (boomers) joked about how the social debt was my problem. My problem is a hundred and ten trillion dollars of social debt, or three hundred fifty thousand per person( http://www.usdebtcl

Even not knowing what an OS is, a user is incredibly frustrated by crashes, lag, and sms errors. There may not be an 'android phone' but there is 'the alternative to the IPhone' which isn't, outside of the business market, the blackberry. U

There's an interesting reversal in that statement. Historically, we host our letterbox or our phone terminal, and we buy equipment and such to do it with. (mailbox and phone). The post and phone networks provided connectivity, but not the

Or one could espouse an ideal on real world behavior closer to that of kindergarten, wherein one claims things such as 'be nice to one another', and the world could...be nicer? While your realism is realistic, its also chilling.

College students are an amazing representation of our culture of conspicuous consumption. People move off campus because (at my school) its much cheaper...and then eat out every night. Why? Because no one ever taught them that wealth isn't
