Not do advocate Java, but your knowledge is dated, I'd say at least 5yrs off. Play has on the fly code compilation, Jetty does fast reloads, JRebel hot class reloading etc.

I pay you $1000 (or EUR) if you show me how you can be 3x faster from idea to live with RoR against something else, say Java/Play. If 50% of your time is HTML/CSS fixing, thinking, finding edge cases, testing, debugging, communication

Yes, if you're a VC backed startup, 10x the site costs (say 10 M instead of 1M) is not a problem. Otherwise the productivity gains of the developers need to make up the 9M difference.

From the comment that explains a lot, but misses the point completely (exchange of oxygen between the bubble and the sea to replenish oxygen in the bubble): Don't ask a chemistry question on a physics board ;-)

Then we should show up in the Google search results with different urls depending on the device used for the search. There is no 1:1 mapping of site to mobile "pages" with a RIA.

Not happy with that decision. (We don`t do redirects) After working for some time with iOS we recognized that an "app" suites our customers on mobile better than a "site". So we have a classic website for ecommerce, and

Not sure what your rant against Rand has to to with the quote in this context? Whenever someone uses "alea iacta est" to make a point, it's usually not the case to discuss Julius Caesar.

From Atlas Shrugged: “Did you really think that we want those laws to be observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We want them broken. [...] There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals.

Interesting how many people here are hand waving to explain this with immigrants, blacks etc. when from the outside everyone else sees it as the brutal "eye for an eye" policy that runs US thinking, society and foreign relations.

As you are down voted I wonder: I have the same experience here. Very few serious problems (1/year) that come from developer bugs. Others seem to have much more, e.g. when people ask me if the devs here have pager duty (which they haven't).
