I think this sounds like a really fun thing to do. I'm told that I write decently, and have been trying to get into the creative side of writing lately. Also, the PI-like aspect sounds fun! I'll hit you up on email.

Paul -- I use CK to monitor my Linode apps. Should I expect to start seeing "switch to rackspace" pitches when I login? Are you going to do anything non-anonymously with my data?

Not necessarily always the case. Anyway, the author isn't suggesting that we do this in all areas of society. Just the ones that fit the experimental structure pretty well. Using the articles examples of education and crime -- seems pret

The article actually explicitly discusses your first point: that people can be affected by the experiment. It's called Hawthorne's Law, and the author discusses what types of laws might be good / bad to perform these tests on. Your second

The only problem with this (note: I speak from no experience, just reading other comments) is that it's at the application level. For the serious DDoS stuff (Anon, extortion rings), you have to filter at the TCP level (from what I know).

I'm sure you understand this, but it's worth explicitly pointing out that this blog post is a one time cost, whereas email overload is ongoing. Plus, email (for me, at least, and apparently the author) has a much higher psychological burde

Regular login/pass will be your lowest common denominator. I think you have to build that first, and add in facebook/google/twitter afterwards. I'd sign up via either google or via login, but if you didn't offer those options I would not

I speak from my startup's experience. We thought we were a lock for angel funding around 4 months ago. Finally, all the answers came back, "no". We believe it was because it's our first startup, and we did indeed look like the cardboard

I ran the site through an SEO analyzer, and found that you did pretty well on the basic stuff, like you mentioned above. See the full report at http://www.seoworkers.com/tools/report.html (enter your URL). The big areas to focus on are y

Considering construction finished just 3 years before this exam was published, and the charter was formalized just 10 years before, I would say that MIT (known as Boston Tech from 1866-1916) was not among the foremost technical institutions

I expect that programming for the desktop is more difficult than web stuff. I do web stuff only, but still have the perspective to kind of realize the spectrum of difficulty generally inherent to different types of programming. That said,

Is it that coders confused the good business guys with the charlatans, or is it that it's difficult to tell them apart? Much like business guys can't tell good coders from bad without knowing about programming (100% agreement there), it's j

About the same. Depends on how recently I looked at it. I usually stop when the articles are ones I've seen before. That's when I roll over to the new section. Don't usually get past 5 pages over there.

Anyone else get weird back button behavior when visiting this site? I clicked "back" but nothing happened. When I looked at my recent history, there were 3-4 entries for the site. Anyone else get this issue?

If this is something you really want to do, I'd recommend getting as niche as possible. Find a group of people with strongly held beliefs that exhibit a lot of cognitive dissonance, and exploit them. A great example is the atheist who offe

For me, it's the structure that allows me to get things done. I've only ever dabbled in GTD or Pomo, but the basic building block -- have a list of tasks grouped and broken-down by time -- is what lets me get things done. I'm sure the proce

Sounds like there's a chance you'll be hurt because you've used a template. How does that compare to the damage / delay suffered because you had to take the time to design the site? Generally, I'll start with a template to get things runni
