Althogh Sparrow supports non-GMail protocols, it really is primarily for GMail. I use a standard IMAP-mail provider (folders, not tags), and to me Sparrow added very little over what I had with Apple Mail. (Conversly, when I used GMail, it

Repost from OSnews comments: This philosophy of putting consistency on this giant pedestal reminds me of the strict non-expressive philosophy of 60s modernist graphic design. They use Helvetica for everything, because Helvetica is neutral,

Icons don’t have to make sense if people can learn them. I think people are being way to hung up on things being too skeuomorphic. Remember that A didn’t start as an A, it started as a sign for ox. That’s right, our writing system had skeuo

Upon further reflection I don’t think it’s impossible, but I still think it’s probably very difficult. Both design and coding are both huge fields. I am not merely talking about becoming a good designer and developer at once, but becoming o

I think there is simply too much stuff to know about in both coding and design. There is simply not enough not time to become really knowledgable in both. However, I am not sure if you really need to be super knowledgeable to benefit from k

Pixelmator, Acorn, GIMP and Paint.NET does pretty much this. Pixelmator has a UI that rivals Photoshop in many areas.

I had to use RVM and edit some config files in order to get Rails to run at all. Might not be a big deal of people who are used to that kind of thing, but it did not make a good first impression to beginner like me. This doesn’t seem to be

I assume that you are being ironic, and you’re right: there was a lot of ugly graphic design in the 90s. This is partially due to the whole grunge-trend… However: I think today we have more beautiful design that we would have had if the des

I thought the same the first time I used it, I did however only do this mistake once. Maybe it’s a case of something that is confusing at first, but people learn fairly quickly?

Seems to be an encoding error of sorts. I have a norwegian character in my name (Ø), i used switched it for O and the download worked fine. The app works great, really cool!

I find it much more likely that it is an result of Microsoft’s Metro design language. It’s something that is happening across many of their products. Apple might still me a influence, but I don’t think it’s minor.

I think you could say that designers are responsible for the psychological side of a product and developers are responsible for the technical side. Developers might respond that they created a great product that solves a problem without any

I think it is one of two: 1. They hired a designer to work with them. 2. They have become good at design themselves. It’s kinda obvious when you think about it.

Content is always king. Both engineering and design makes no sense without content (in most cases).Design and engineering are ways to work with content. Design is how the cup looks, and more importantly feels in your hand. Engineering is ma

This articles seems based on a misunderstanding that design is only about looking good. I would actually say Hacker News and Stack Overflow have very good design. They have design that meets the goals of the sites. That is what design is, m

The main reason is that including IDs makes “selector points” much more complex. A selected with one ID will outweigh a selector with two classes for instance. This can quickly lead to complexity because you need to use a ID many places in
