Maybe the whole system of basing pay on supply and demand needs some serious adjustments based on the societal impact of a job? It’s not that I’m unhappy with my cushy tech job and the life style that comes with it, but making literally 5x

Every once in a while, I Google the names of my classmates back in elementary, middle, highschool, and college. There are no crumbs to be found of them for the vast, vast majority. If these people are older than their mid fourties, as they

My manager got the message after I copied my personal growth and goals 3 years in a row from the previous self-review. In my late forties, I know what I can do and I’m very good at it. I know what I can’t do well, and I avoid it and tell th

Weird. I gave up on Eagle before I was able to get PCB ready for manufacturing, but I found KiCad to be very intuitive. (Except when importing external libraries, that’s one horror show.)

When GPUs are know to use signed firmware, when open source coders need to ask for signed firmware to make even a minimal feature open source GPU driver work, and when there’s no evidence at all that high performance custom made mining-only

It was only 2 or 3 years ago that AMD and Nvidia had to deal with a massive glut of silicon due to the collapse in mining. Securing even more years in advance is a recipe for repeating that.

Building more fabs is the general solution to the demand in silicon. And that's happening. But in the context of "I'd rather they have scaled up the demand", where "they' is Nvidia (or almost any other fabless

Microsoft designed Office with professional features, but they artificially neuter the Home version with a compile switch. This is no different. As long as you know what you're paying for, segmentation is fine. It allows consumers to p

Why shouldn't companies be allowed to do product segmentation? Limiting mining performance on a consumer GPU is no different than limiting certain professional or machine learning specific performance features.

2900ft houses is a good way to skew the argument in your favor, but it's a bit of a strawman: the vast majority of houses in the Bay Area aren't 2900ft to begin with, yet 2000ft house are plenty, with 4 bedroom, on, say, a 6000ft
