If they are using MC, does that mean they are actually generating SDFs? If so it would be nice if you could output the SDF rather than the triangle mesh.

That is the standard approach, but if you try to tonemap using it, you will quickly realize it really really sucks.

Even if you have a standard specular & diffuse model, indirect lighting is really important and you can't really just drop that into a shader. If you want a standard I've go with OpenPBR, it is well documented and looks nice.

I went to a public school and regarded it as prison, no bullying went on, but the system is not designed to educate, it is designed to instill obedience, and the pace of learning is dictated primarily by mediocrity of the teachers(I had a r

Both government and private can be efficient or inefficient, it depends on the motive, I don't know why people insist on pretending one is always superior. In the case of SpaceX they are more efficient because NASA is intentionally ham

It looks very nice in the examples, but I tested it by dropping a Chrono Trigger character art in, and it generated some 2D planes instead of a 3D mesh..so ugh.. what?

I think it does look much nicer than the other examples of this nature that I've seen. I would guess they are pre-generating the world from the image, not generating it on the go as it runs reasonably well, but doesn't this really

Ya this article is terrible. You can use RAII with arena allocation, and you can also defer RAII cleanup to avoid stalls. Manually calling cleanup functions also has the exact same potential for stalls. Also perf wise, the only time huge de

You can simplify the 2x sqrts as sqrt(a*b), overall less operations so perhaps more accurate. It would also let you get rid of the funky lane swivels. As this would only use 1 lane, perhaps if you have multiple of these to normalize, you co

For concurrency issues you don't want a debugger or printing as both are terrible for this, you want a library designed to specifically detect these issues, I have a custom one but many other people use valgrind etc.

All that tells me is that you have never used a good debugger. There is no "setup" and stepping through lines is trivial.

It is well presented, but I think the part attacking TAA will lead to confusion, as SDF AA is in no way an alternative to TAA. TAA covers all types of aliasing, while this only covers edge aliasing. Many modern games use monte carlo based a
