I agree with essentially all of this, and I really think the barrier to entry for packaging should be lower. It was deeply helpful to me while learning Linux to be able to write a Bash PKGBUILD, maybe 20-40 lines, to have that clear structu

I’m pretty sure GPU passthrough does work in Qubes HVMs, although I haven’t tried it myself. Here are three quick and recent tutorials I found including one with a newer VirtualGL approach that offloads work instead of passing the entire c

Very interesting, as of Xcode 15? I wonder if anyone has explored doing this on Linux, and hope this gets a little more attention.

Arch particularly has the user repository where anyone can submit a package and vote on the ones they use most often to be adopted into the community repository, yes. It’s a great way to start contributing to the distribution at large while

Very cool, and seems handy! I’ve always had good results from the Preview.app. I wonder how this engine compares for number of errors in a difficult source versus Free alternatives.

Do you mean between Java SE 6 in Dec. 2006 and Java SE 7 in 2011? I remember being taught using 6 in high school around 2009.

Yep, why would they drop it? It’s especially egregious as Apple disregards its own human interface guidelines to make green bubbles excessively low-contrast. Very intentional.

I also have crashes on sway, but there’s a rough workaround now which prevents the issue totally. I believe there’s a design issue with Firefox and GTK handling input events; some Wayland compositors have workarounds but others do not. htt

Note recent reports of mitigations=off _hurting_ Zen4 performance in many cases. I don't have Zen4 so I'm not super up-to-date on this -- r2-t2 above disagrees, but offers no data. https://www.phoronix.com/news

Sponsor the ungoogled-chromium folks, they’re great. Brave browser, too, though it’s definitely a commercial product. As far as a foundation though, to me it makes more sense to fund and develop Firefox’s tech, if not that browser any longe

Agreed, AMD and Intel are much easier to rely on. I’ve never had it nicer on Linux than I do now with a primary AMD GPU and a secondary NVIDIA that I can use for games or CUDA, or pass to a VM. It feels great finally having bleeding edge ke

Samsung has pledged 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates recently. I’d like to see 7-8 years of security updates, but it’s decent. https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_pledges_4_os_updates_5_year...

In my experience mpv and VLC will handle .IFO files in DVD’s VIDEO_TS folder structure just fine. You could open the .VOB files directly, but that’s more cumbersome.
