See you are already blind with rage. Somebody died, and you want to leash out and find somebody to blame. I feel sad about his death, too. I have nothing against black bars or mourning. Just against telling other people how to feel, which i

I wouldn't be offended by a black bar. I just don't like calling on other people to do stuff. Likewise you could ask of a widow to wear black for a year, and if she wouldn't, you could start gossiping and badmouthing her. Also, there are mo

I didn't take offense in the sense of "if you do this I'll find you and beat you up". It was just my lack of English skills. What I mean is I don't like it. Obviously nobody will notice if I join in demonstrative mourning or not over the in

So it's the rest of HN against me now? Anyway, I'm off, I said my opinion and that's it. It's not a thing to rationally argue about at this point in time.

Sure, as long as it's gentle. I just don't want a discussion on why it is wrong to not make the bar black or what not. And as I said, I see this in a long tradition of making people do stuff because somebody died, which I don't like. It's a

My own take (which some might even find depressing, but it helped me): life is very short anyway, it is hardly worth ending it prematurely. It will end soon enough on it's own accord.

I'd be curious to know what they teach the people manning the phones. Sometimes I ponder volunteering, but honestly, atm anybody talking to me would probably be more suicidal afterwards than before. Are there even universal things to say? P

I must admit I find this and other variations of "let's use the death of a person to force other people to do things" very offensive. Black out your own web site. Mourning is a personal thing. If PG decides he wants to black bar HN, he will

On the interntet nobody knows you are a human. No need to die for that. Also, there is a huge variety of human communities. Perhaps check Jared Diamond, I think his latest book describes tribes in New Guinea.

Is there a preview available somewhere? I am looking for a way to read HN on my Kindle. Nevermind, found the archive at the very bottom of the page. I guess it won't work for Kindle, though.

Perhaps a lot of people haven't read it yet. Especially if it is a special offer, the likelihood for the book to go into the "want to read eventually" pile is quite high.

My son is playing with the bigger Lego pieces at the moment (Duplo), and I have the impression that they wear out a bit. What I mean is that they won't stick together as tightly as in the beginning. For example we bought a used set from eba

The other day it occurred to me that the digital age might result in some serious data loss. I was wondering about historic prices for cars. Not sure how you would have gone about it in previous times, but I suppose you could find old catal

Haven't read the article, just wanted to point out that 40 years is nothing. In Jared Diamond's Collapse he tells about civilizations that collapsed after 4000 years. I don't think we can assume that our current society exists in an equilib

How do my comments reveal how informed I am? You know nothing about my experiences with PHP. Anyway, don't bother - I'll let you own your little PHP discussion now, moving on. My comments on HN won't stop the calamity anyway.

I don't have a retina device, so I wonder: are they not capable of rendering normal resolutions? I would have assumed that they simply render a "classic pixel" as four retina pixels? So classic web sites should still work?

I'd prefer it if I could see the possible "goals" before entering my contact information. At the moment it is the usual: no information before signup. (I didn't proceed past the contact information tab, so can't comment further).
