I've come to the conclusion that it is yet another useless question. Or perhaps "it's alive if it interests us". Is the great red spot on Jupiter alive? I don't know, but who cares if it is interesting enough to stu

Consciousness is just an illusion. It is not a useful concept either. It won't help you to program robots, for example. I was very surprised to learn that according to Less Wrong, the concept of "Zombies" is accepted by a lot

I feel the same, but lately most ebooks I looked at were a couple of EUR cheaper than their paperback counterparts. I think the publishers/vendors are learning.

It seems very misleading to me to just calculate average revenue by "money paid/downloads". At least a while ago a popular model on Android was to publish the app free and make money with advertising. So the average payout pe

Lots of mediums have gone extinct - tapes, punch cards, what not. To view them now, one has to get a capable device. Maybe to see some old web sites in all their glory we just need to download Mosaic again. Perhaps someone will even make a

The ponzi scheme theory: since apparently Amazon is making a profit it reinvests, it seems to me it could make a "real" profit any day simply by not reinvesting any longer.

Also I think during the boom time they simply built too many malls. Don't know about the US, but even in Germany they build more and more malls while the malls next door are going bust (still building more as we speak). It's crazy

Although I think you can't have that many more hobbies with children, either. I think jobs are a bigger problem than children (bigger time sink I mean).

Amazon's job was not to be political. The WP's job is. I wouldn't draw analogies from one to the other.

Couldn't Android just ask for the DHCP option? It sounds to me as if this is a case of Android as a DHCP client talking to Android as a DHCP host, so making Android ask as a client seems feasible.
