No regrets here, but I did use Google Code a fair bit prior to GitHub and I had an experience that made me think maybe Google regretted that product in some ways. Around 2005-6 I wrote a Mac OS X client for Xbox Live. The idea was I wanted

Several years ago, a coworker made an Arduino "mouse" that traced a square with a 1KHz report rate. Multiple systems running Windows 10 and reading mouse updates via either regular window events or the Win32 raw mouse API would oc

I don’t have many hard rules I follow about specific standards or parts when I shop for a bike, but I do have one guideline I adhere to: I only buy bikes with online tech manuals containing exploded diagrams, dimensions, part numbers, and t

This idea was already tried with the hour record. Between 1972 and 2014 a standard bike was used to match what Eddy Merckx used. What happened was cyclists lost interest in the hour record because the bike became too dissimilar to the bikes

Sure, I use Xcode to work on cross platform C and C++ projects. Meta build systems like cmake can generate projects or build files for various IDEs (like Xcode) or build systems (like ninja) from a single project definition. IMO, Xcode is a

This post seems to be just about the GTK port of WebKit. So they’re comparing Skia vs Cairo on Linux. There’s no mention of Skia vs CoreGraphics for macOS. It doesn’t sound like that is something that is being considered.

I see a similar response rate as the poster you’re replying to, but I am going to keep filing bugs. If Apple fixes a bug I file, that’s not just to Apple’s benefit, it’s to my benefit and to the benefit of people who use my software as well

Apple’s calculator seems to get the first set of problems from the pdf right as well. Did you test with it and get something different?

You can, actually. AUv3 plug-ins have been a thing on iOS for years. I have a few I use through GarageBand.

My comment was in the context of sales within the state, where both the seller and buyer are in the same state (same situation as the article about Apple in CA). Previously, WA was like CA apparently is today, where the sales tax for in sta

In Washington state they solved this problem by allocating the sales tax to the location of the customer for online sales. I remember having to implement it as a small business and it was a minor pain, but I assume the legislators mostly ha

Our 9 year old has an electric scooter. I didn’t really want to get it for him, because I’m an old school analog bike guy myself, but I have to admit it is convenient. It has around a 15 mile range and keeps up with a comfortable cycling pa

I really doubt the issue is technical. The page curl rendering itself was implemented in Core Animation. The application side just set the parameters for the position of the curl. It worked well even on the original iPad. I have no inside k

Severance is great, but it sure felt to me like a send up of Apple’s own corporate culture with some mid century IBM thrown in. I wonder how Ben Stiller was able to nail the vibe so well as someone who hasn’t spent time as a worker in a pla

Do you happen to have a link? I actually do follow them and their blog pretty closely and this is news to me. I realize we are all reading tea leaves here, but any public info at all from an Apple source would be interesting to me.

It’s fine to disagree, it’s not unreasonable to have the take that making users pay a cost in terms of extra cpu usage is worth it for the benefits of AV1. But it would be better if you could make that argument without the hostility. Anyhow

Is there any evidence for this beyond kCMVideoCodecType_AV1 in the 16.0 headers? I'm not sure that alone implies any particular version. Could be iOS 17 or later for all we know.

It depends on your workload and codebase. I have a Ryzen 5600X in my desktop and for C++ work, my M1 Pro is quite a bit faster for clean or incremental builds. The desktop is still useful/required for some of my work (using x86_64 wind

For games another reason they don’t need dynamic metadata is they produce their content on the fly and they’re doing tone mapping themselves already and can tailor it to the display characteristics.
