As a non-American, can someone explain to me why the entire constitution wouldn't be applicable upon entering your own country? This makes no sense to me, but it seems to be the way it is?

I'll believe it when I see it. Sleeper trains have been on the out for a while now, because they're much cheaper and often much more convenient than high speed rail. Don't want cheap and good to compete with overpriced and pr

How can you determine whether a patient has cancer before they show symptoms, if you require a tissue sample? I would expect people only get tumors biopsied after they realize they have one?

It's very common, and it often starts after an illness or health scare. In some people it gets worse and worse, they start going to the ER all the time because they feel something is wrong etc. It can be debilitating. If you feel like

It's not "insanely" high. And blanket statements like this can cause undue alarm. If you're worried about an elevated resting heart rate, go get an ECG done. Don't let random people on the internet talk you into hea

And that's exactly why anyone who isn't a cardiologist shouldn't be making judgements about the state if your heart. The heart is pretty complex for being 'just a pump'. Things can and do go wrong in ~100% of the po

Good. People have been driving too fast for too long. Too many people die in car crashes. Speed is often the factor that determines whether you (or the pedestrian they're hitting) lives or dies. Drivers have had plenty of time to moder

I thought the race to suburbia was a deliberate attempt to spread out the population in case of Soviet nukes? Though I guess there is likely more than one cause.

This might finally get me to migrate away from awesome-wm, which I've been using for basically as long as it's existed. As far as I can tell, awesome-wm has been dead for a while, with only one release over the last two years or s

It's one of my favourite smells. Right up there with ripe tomatoes and freshly baked bread. I have very strong & happy associations with all three of those smells. Whenever I pick up a book, I automatically give it a sniff.

It's hardly a surprise. It takes time for people to migrate to new protocols. Not everyone can just leave 20 years of engineering effort behind and switch to HTTP2 because it's a bit faster in some situations.

The price of housing is only one factor. You can probably buy a nice, cheap house and open some office in the arse end of nowhere. And then you can spend your day driving around to get basic shopping done. Some cities are certainly more aff

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Getting rid of DST sounds like a good thing. Not messing time is patently good. But a bunch of countries on the western side of the EU ought to be on GMT instead of GMT+1. And appparently a ma

I'm not sure what you're trying to say. You don't have to create flash cards. Polar just makes it easy to turn notes into flash cards, that's all.

You don't want to use a heat pump to blow hot air. You want to use a heat pump for low temperature underfloor heating. The heat is right where you want it, the heat pump doesn't have to work as hard (because of the lower temperatu

Latency is the sum of its parts. It doesn't matter if the latency from the cell tower to your phone is 1ms or 10ms if the rest of the trip takes 100ms. It's nice to keep some of the latency down, but it's not going to magical
