For companies selling hardware with software it does matter. Look at Apple. An iPhone has way less memory than an android and the profit margins are higher for Apple. Apps are running faster on lower hardware. I’d argue that this is a reaso

Wow, there is no way around it. Sam Altman is basically getting his way by misleading people. The board did the right thing. Honesty is crucial as a leader. I think for Sam Altman his goal is more important than ethics and he will do whatev

Agreed, if the company is small keep the process light and focus on good people and a good product. This includes a good DevOps “product” side of things. Personally I do like having a documenting culture so things can easily by found. In th

Exactly this. I’m working 2 days per week from home for focus time. But nothing beats the bandwidth of face 2 face communication. The hybrid option works well for me. But I’m glad we have days that most people are in the office. It also dep

How can this be faster than Protobuf? Protobuf basically does a direct storage of bytestream to memory. No parsing needed because it precompiled the stubs. Theoretically it can’t be much faster. And having an IDL is an advantage imho. Clear

Congrats. How does this deal with schema changes? We have a solution where old clients can store objects that have new fields unknown to the client. Then when the clients updates the data is visible. Do you have client libraries for mobile?

Everybody is so negative about it. It don’t see why. It’s just storing a hash of an eyeball to have a better solution than soon-to-be-broken captchas to detect humanness. The only thing that is stored is the hash. It’s just a “human or not”

What is exactly bad here? The eyeballs photos are not stored unless you agree with it. It’s just hashed and stored in the system. It’s just a hash of eyeballs to allow checking who is human and who is not. It doesn’t store any personal data

Yeah it’s basically a retry loop. I’m curious about the average response time and the worst case amount of iterations. At best, all these “retry until successfully” are just hacks to bridge the formal world with the stochastic. It’s just us
