We built an alternative to IPFS called Skynet that attempts to solve a couple of the major issues with IPFS. The biggest one being data durability and uptime. On Skynet, pinning doesn't mean hosting the file from your machine, it means

A lot of the CVE's there are pretty minor. There hasn't been a serious but in Bitcoin core that I know of since 2018, and the one before that was in 2016. Not perfect, but overall I think that's a pretty decent track record.

Bitcoin is set up such that there is no auto-updating feature. Any change to Bitcoin must be accepted manually by all participants. But there's still a question of "how many people actually review the changelog before updating?&qu

Ultimately you'd have to decide which one you want to treat as the canonical chain. There would be two (or more) parallel histories, and users would have to figure out which one they wanted to follow. By default, all users would go alo

You don't have the power to cause inflation. There is a material difference between stealing coins and double spending. Stealing coins implies you can rewrite anyone's balance to be your own balance. Double spending requires havin

Most proponents of Proof of Work don't celebrate the use of energy. They celebrate the use cases that PoW enables. I don't know of any other way to trustlessly establish a consensus ordering, and I believe that being able to trust

The big difference with Skynet is that you pay for professionals to pin the data on your behalf. It works better for unpopular files because you aren't relying on the uptime of people at home. It also works better for popular files bec

I think it remains a valid question though. What if we had handled the unemployment by creating infrastructure jobs instead of universal handouts? That has the added benefit of increasing the productive output of our economy.

I have a BS in CS. 90% of the concurrency I know is self taught, 98% of the I/O I know is self taught , 85% of the networking I know is self taught. I went to RPI, which is not an ivy school but it is a good engineering school.
