2000 acres is not a small farm period. For context the price per acre where I live (centre of Quebec, Canada) is 15k$. So 30M$ for 2k acres, it's an industrial farm that need employees (at least one or two if it's a highly automat

Downvoting is an easier way to express a disagreement than writing a comment thus gets used more often. I am wondering if they should raise the number of points required to access this feature, it should probably be raised each year in fact

The chart that shows the total amount invested per quarter indicates that we are back down to 2020 levels. Deals are harder to get for sure, speaking from experience as a first time founder in Canada. But I would argue 2021 was the outlier

I really don't understand the move. No way open source collectives will be able to pay the 300$/y minimum cost for an organisation and there is no way to convert an organisation back to a user. I expect there will be a lot of brok

I always have mixed feeling about having mut self in the handler. On one end its nice to avoid locking the inner state, but it does prevent processing of messages concurrently. This is annoying in many cases where you want for example a cen

One of the reason we started to work on my own startup was to provide a credible alternative to Burpsuite as Zap was not evolving in that direction. If we had funding in the amount this letter wants per year it would easy to build it open s

Very glad to see this emerge, we have been using actix in production for a year now and it's a bit annoying the state of it. The dominant sentiment in the Rust community right now seems to be to build your own framework, but I really d

I feel HN as a double speak for startups. Lots of cheer for open source and free stuff, lots of hate for anything subscription-based, lots of noise for high salaries and then picachu surprise when stuff like this happens. If anything I am c

We try to do most of the heavy lifting in Rust in the backend and we only lazy load what is needed in the frontend. We found this is a good compromise that allows us to move faster on a multiplatform UI while not consuming too much resource

On the contrary modern houses often rot because of the water barrier. Condensation gets trapped in the wall and it rots really fast. If you insulate your old house from the inside you wont have this issue. I spent the last 3 years remodelli

I agree with this. We are shipping our app Caido with Tauri and it is missing quite a lot in feature parity with electron. We always lose time to try to bypass limitations or work around bugs. I honestly can't recommend it for producti

Unless I am wrong, if your server uses end-to-end encryption you are still better off with CRDT since the server cannot merge the state. So there is a caveat to be said about this claim that you only need CRDT for peer-to-peer scenarios.

We have been using Render for around a year now. It is a good service but this new pricing makes it impossible for us as a small bootstrap startup of 3 people to continue using it. We have two teams, one for staging and one for production (

Wondering if it would be possible to run macos. The hosted runner of Github Actions for macos are really really horrible, our builds take easily 2x to 3x more time than hosted Windows and Linux machines.

If you have no server cost, then the jetbrains model might make sense. Otherwise despite the loud people on HN, the subscription is the only viable model. This is especially true if you serve a niche market.
