The financial incentives of dating apps are just bad. To make money you have to keep your (male) users on the platform and make them desperate enough so they pay. This is contrary to their mission statement and I can't see how people w

Ho I do not disagree but coming from Canada where we have been talking about open banking for the past 10 years without any progress I will take a smart contract any day over the big 5 banks that we have today. The question is not if it can

I don't think you can separate the two honestly. As soon as you have a smart contract for something you can make it permissioned. Only human laws outside of tech could prevent that so I am guessing each country will be different.

I would argue that yes it can be done outside of a platform like this, but each time you want to implement a new policy you need to talk to all private actors and force them to implement your policy. With programmable money (think ETH smart

For me that would be an effective way to target government money to people that really need it. Another comment pointed the expiring money, specialized money, etc as a distopia future but this is only if we let it become that IMHO. There is

I charge around 75$/h for backend and devops work. I started at 42$/h two years ago. Increasing the rate at every contract. I usually only bill coding hours which is around 5h/day for me, but I realized that it is not a good

Also worth noting that Sqlite released a WAL2 journal mode recently that eliminates the "stop of the world" we had with WAL when checkpointing. Basically it maintains two wal files and switched between them when one needs to be ch

People on HN always complain about this. But the reality is that the one time payment you (maybe) gave for Plex is not enough to make a viable company. So they have to offer complementary products and for that you need an online account. No

Looking at the release notes ( https://cloud.google.com/iot/docs/release-notes ) it seems like you could see it coming as there was no new features since 2019. This doesn't help GCP credibility compared to othe

The only thing left to solve is to actually build cross platform. You can do with rust cross but you have to build your own docker images on macos first since apple licensing prohibits redistribution of binaries. It would save us so much mo

Also a fan of this format though I wish it was native to postgres so we dont have to convert to UUID for storage (maybe a custom type would do it). For reference here is my plpgsql implementation: https://gist.github.com/Syt

That is not an argument at least for rust since its super easy to consume and offer a C interface. I think it's more of a shift in mentality that needs to occur.
