That gives them 6 months to get the servers reliably online, if I recall Diablo III correctly...

I did a bunch of research on thin clients before buying one and I found a site[0] that compiles data on a bunch of different machines. I ended up going with a Wyse 5060, it's a quad-core machine at 2.4ghz + 4gb of ram. It was pretty wi

I read a comment recommending used thin clients on HN like a week ago and did the same thing. I set up one as an octoprint server, one for the hardware lab, and one for a retro gaming station. At ~$30 a piece, it was a no brainer. I reused

I had the same reaction, I think it might have to do with the many rectangular holes along the top. It gives me a slightly trypophobic reaction.

I wanted to get back into CAD stuff for 3D printing, what free platforms are out there? In my research, I’ve only come across freeCAD and Fusion360.

Agreed. A helix-mode extension for VSC would be ideal.

I also tried to get it to generate some simple code examples. One was to generate a webpage with a button to add textboxes. Each textbox should have a unique remove button. When the site gets down to only one textbox on the page, it should

I think you can run BLOOM locally, but it's not quite as powerful as this iteration of chatGPT. Also the vRAM requirements are pretty high if you want to run the biggest model. https://huggingface.co/bigscience/blo

Yes, if you disable SIP on ARM Macs, apple already disables Apple Pay and running iOS apps as I found out the hard way.

I've been trying to convince people that I just prefer Apple products and am not brainwashed since _at least_ the early 2000's... best of luck!

Seems like a win-win for me. Either he actually makes Twitter better or he completely destroys it. The internet would be better off either way.

Let's not pretend that Apple is the only company that people buy from to signal an in-group status. I believe people also buy old thinkpads, dumb phones, android phones, and use Linux (arch btw) to signal to fellow nerds on the interne

Hacker news does sort of self select for people who value tinker-ability over any kind of aesthetic design choices. I think we are part of a relatively small minority here.

If the discussion is around phone for kids, I think a second hand SE is still a great choice. Kids don’t really care about the features that you or I would care about.

I would say 2012. It was right as mobile versions of sites were becoming common and bandwidth was high enough to facilitate HD video and live streaming, but it was before AI/ML turned every social media site into a living hell scape.

I've been trying to get my hands on a beamspring for years (at a non-ridiculous price); I'll have to look into the Futaba switches. Thanks!

I quite like Nord. The color scheme is pleasing to look at, available in most editors and terminals for consistency, and looks good at night and during the day.

It's very refreshing to hear others complain about the interview culture at these companies. In the last year I've interviewed at Apple, Amazon, Meta, IBM and a couple others and failed every interview. I've only recently f

I’m already in the apple ecosystem, so I’m a little biased but I think the Apple Watch is pretty good considering cost, functionality, and battery life. I use an app called health auto export to dump all of my data to an mqtt endpoint on my

Not exactly what you're after, but you can export data from your OBD2 port to something like home assistant[1]. Combined with an autoPi[2], you might be able to pull this off today if you really wanted to. [1] - https://chil
