Yep, when I bought my Hilux I was told that it had an ANCAP Safety Rating of "5" (which is the highest in Australia). If I chose to get a bullbar installed, it would reduce to "4" even though I would be safer as pedestri

The problem is not that the feature exists - the problem is that you are locked into it, can’t easily opt out, and if it goes wrong you lose access to a product you’ve paid for. A good system would cater for everyone adequately.

Yeah, but you were already scared of contravening the rules and wouldn’t have cheated anyway. It’s a false equivalency.

Almost everyone has some kind of base workload, whether it’s RDS or EC2 operating some specific piece of infra. Some people may not be able to RI their entire workloads, but EVERYONE can reduce their AWS spend partially using RIs. It may on

That’s not true at all. AWS start charging you as soon as the data leaves an AZ. In fact, if you use a direct connect you only need to pay 2c/GB to egress out of the region (which they most certainly pay are) which is what you'd p

That is the whole point of “printing money”. It takes value away from the money in bank accounts. It is used to forcibly redistribute money into the economy during a down turn when people would rather not spend it. If you have 100 “pie toke

What I always love about these statements from CEOs is that if there is a culture of poor performance or whatever, it is actually the companies and the CEOs themselves who are doing a poor job. Ultimately, the performance of the company is

You're absolutely right. Taking responsibility would be resigning. If a normal employee missed their goals by this much, they'd be on a PIP and out the door in less than three months. Rules for me, and rules for thee.

This is a hot take. The reason that you need to do things the ops way is because ops knows how to run applications in production. There's a reason the meme "worked in dev, ops problem now" exists. You need to meet all of the
