Yep, when I bought my Hilux I was told that it had an ANCAP Safety Rating of "5" (which is the highest in Australia). If I chose to get a bullbar installed, it would reduce to "4" even though I would be safer as pedestrian safety is significantly reduced and that factors into the rating.
- Smoosh 4y agoIt may not be safer if the bull bar messes with the other safety systems (crumple zones, airbag deployment timings etc). No idea if this was a factor in the rating reduction by ANCAP. Also be aware that many ANCAP ratings are cut and pasted from overseas tests and many are outdated, referring to previous models.
