+1 on this. People forget product development is a collaborative process. If a PM is just chucking work over a fence, they’re not a PM. They can’t be doing their job effectively if they’re not spending as much time with developers as with c

I agree and disagree. Even competent managers and high performing teams hire people when the amount of work stress exceeds a limit and it’s mentally cheaper to onboard someone into the team. I think hiring is all about making peoples lives

Not like that, but I worked at a startup that was on its fifth (or so) pivot. Worked many 12 hour days, heaps of crunch. I’m still on the BP medicine because it stressed me out so much.

+1. I have a group chat with my wow friends and we have been mostly connected (with some brief periods after Cataclysm where everyone stopped playing) for almost 15 years now. We’ve had in-person meetups and I have a solid conversation with

Incidentally, “fell off the back of a truck” is a euphemism for stolen goods/goods of unknown origin. When I read the summary I thought they were going to say someone flogged it.

I have many friends from New Zealand and I am under the impression from them that most housing in places like Auckland is the most expensive in the world for what it is. The prices (apparently) make purchasing housing an unattainable goal.

How could a stolen session token even be useful. I have to log into tools every day, if I change IPs at all I have to re-authenticate, and all prod access needs to be approved and has a finite lifespan. How could a CI company be that neglig

My bank has ATMs where you drop all your coins in a hole and the notes go on a stacker. It does all that stuff automatically If there’s a damaged or counterfeit note it spits it back out. This is certainly 100% automated and it tells you ex

There was an article on here a few days ago about a call centre outsourcer who exploits workers. They make them pay for training, giving them tiny shifts, and then when they’re available for an hour but only take one call they only get paid

Spot on. You remunerate people based how much respect you have for them and what esteem you hold for them. If your company pays you less than you’re worth, then they clearly don’t value you. Very few people would show up to work without the

Just remember, SBF wasn’t donating money to these causes: he was donating his customers assets. These organisations are lucky the assets don’t get clawed back because this money should be considered stolen or proceeds of crime.

My non-cynical take is that they have overheads for data in GDPR-esque regions. They want an excuse to easily eliminate that overhead. They can’t “just” take your money before closing so they need to justify it.

I think the point is that it's not magic, but a very clear and obvious system that's been created using native tools. I've run into a lot of people (including Senior SRE/DevOps people) who don't realise that Contain

How come CEOs never get fired during layoffs? Laying off this much of the workforce is an indicator they have done their job poorly (I.e. failed to adequately forecast industry trends and demand). Any normal plebeian would be out the door i

I only have one question to everyone here who is complaining about “job hoppers”. Do you pay more than 5% increases in salary per year for performance? If you don’t like job hoppers, be the change you want to see in the world: create a good

I personally see no ethical conundrum BUT you are better off starting your own company and consulting directly. That way there’s no middle man and you can take all your $$& to the bank.

Honesty with my own limitations and then planning accordingly. I also have an inbuilt system where I just stop doing things when the bucket is full. It renders me temporarily unreliable but it’s a reliable way of shedding unnecessary load.
