Twitter loves Trump. It's not just twitter... the whole profit center around online communities is based on active communities. Most topics are cyclical - once the Superbowl is over, it's hard to keep a football community active

Hennessy was an incredible steward at Stanford, and I'm 100% sure that he will be a difference maker at Alphabet. I don't see him taking the position if he didn't have an incredible vision for the future that he could drive.

You mean like Oracle? Or Sybase? Or Informix? Or Terradata? Well, I guess you can stick to DB2.

I have perl5 in production and we are pushing to migrate that codebase to python - for the plain and simple fact that it's getting harder and harder to find people with any interest in perl5.

Having strong personal convictions about security and architecture was one of the primary reasons that tinydns and qmail were the staples that they were. Yes, they have been feature locked for a long time. But let's not pretend that c

If this is a potential consequence of online gaming, then I don't want any of my children gaming online. We all know that the police response to this issue is going to be inadequate. What I'm curious about is the gaming industry

I think this is right. ~$30 for a nifty piece of technology makes a great no-brainer gift. It's in the ballpark price range of secret santas and gift exchanges. Throw in that it was mentioned in all the black friday deal discussions

The gamification talk currently going on is painting a very effective picture of China basically taking the most evil position possible with technology.

Sure it is. I don't disagree for a second. But there is no shortage of sales people that will promise things they can't deliver very effectively to decision makers. CIOs, CTOs, and CEOs are not stupid. More often than not when

Addressing several of the threads here: If you're doing contract development that can be done half as well for a quarter of the cost by an offshore team, you are not doing consulting. You are competing in an arena that you will never

Imagine... If somebody like Rush Limbaugh had a nationwide radio show where day by day he created content based on RNC talking points. Or a network like Fox or MSNBC went all in on party loyalty and based all their content on party talking

SV is an oddly judgemental area. When people have unpopular opinions they tend to discuss them quietly. My wife doesn't work in tech, but she did lose a job over a post on a message board that didn't agree with her boss' pol

That is bizarre. An HR rep's job is to minimize the company's liabilities, not expand them. I understand not shifting employee job functions based on an unproven accusation. If there's a restraining order in place, it'
